Cemetery Commission

Position Title: Cemetery Commission (4055)

Duration of Term: Five Years

Meetings: The Cemetery Commission meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 4:00pm (except during the summer and winter recess). Meetings are held

at the Edson Cemetery Office, 1375 Gorham Street Lowell, MA 01852.

SUMMARY

The Cemetery Commission is a five (5) member volunteer board that meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month and is responsible for overseeing matters that affect the City's 6 public cemeteries. The Cemetery Commission sets policies and procedures for the City's cemeteries, determines rates, fees and charges, and oversees the Perpetual Care Trust Fund, sale of lots, funds and perpetual interest funds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend monthly meetings of the Cemetery Commission
  • Become familiar with Cemetery policies and procedures to be able to vote accordingly.
  • Amend rates, fees and charges as necessary.
  • Oversee the Perpetual Care Trust fund, sale of lots funds and perpetual interest funds.
