Fox Valley Medical Associates is currently hiring a Certified Medical Assistant. The shift is Full-Time Monday-Friday (4 days per week) and does require some Saturday mornings.
Job Qualifications
- Valid certification and completion of Medical Assistant Program, or equivalent training.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate with all levels whether professional or non-professional.
- Must present positive attitude at all times.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and assimilate theoretical and technical knowledge with observation, assessment, and communication skills to detect medical related problems.
- Recognize and utilize opportunities for patient and family teaching.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, supervisor, coworkers, patients and family via written or oral format.
- Actively participate in staff meetings and in-services.
- Assist in orientation and training of new staff.
- Obtain blood samples and other specimens as ordered.
- Cooperate with director (manager) in staff scheduling including change of “off” day, rotation from internal medicine to family practice and vice versa to ensure adequate coverage at all office locations.
- Administer and document medications (i.e. P.O.I.M. SUBQ) EKG’s, and other treatments, as needed after receiving approved training.
- Perform set-up of equipment (i.e. nebulizer, sigmoidoscope, etc.). Assist with procedures (PAP smears, throat cultures, urine test, pregnancy test, cultures, lab draws with proper training). Clean equipment as necessary.
- Assist patient in setting up appointments for tests (i.e. lab work, EKG’s, ultra sounds, MRI’s, x-rays, etc.).
- May call in refills after checking with M.D.
- Accurately document all pertinent patient information according to legal standards.
- Prepare referral forms.
- Utilize knowledge to establish priorities of care both emergency and non-emergency.
- Obtain, write, and transcribe physician notes and orders as needed.
- Follow through on all physician orders.
- Perform basic CPR in event of cardiopulmonary emergency.
- May take lab results from hospitals, nursing homes, and home health agencies.
- Assist in phoning in orders to hospitals, home healthcare agencies, and nursing homes.
- Phone in new prescriptions on M.D. orders.
- May disburse sample medications on orders of M.D.
- Advise patients of lab and test results after reviewed by M.D.
- Schedule patient appointments appropriately verifying demographics, financial status via chart and computer system.
- Verify HMO insurance status, referral status, past medical history via FVM database.
- Accurately document all patient information in appropriate area of medical records.
