Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant

Position Overview:

Mountains Women's Center is seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our OB/GYN team. This versatile role combines clinical patient care with front office support, as all medical assistants are cross-trained to provide comprehensive service throughout the practice. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care, assist with clinical procedures, support front desk operations, and contribute to the daily operations of our women's health practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients warmly and escort them to examination rooms with professionalism and courtesy
  • Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs, medical history, current medications, and chief complaints in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist clinicians with GYN procedures including pap smears, colposcopies, IUD insertions/removals, and other gynecological procedures
  • Perform point-of-care testing including urine pregnancy tests, urine dipsticks, and other CLIA-waived testing as ordered
  • Administer medications and injections per physician orders following proper protocols
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens accurately, ensuring proper labeling and documentation
  • Provide patient education on procedures, medications, and post-visit instructions
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked examination rooms
  • Process prescription refill requests and communicate with patients regarding follow-up care
  • Document all patient interactions, procedures, and care provided accurately and timely in the EHR

2. Front Office Responsibilities:

  • Staff the front desk as scheduled, providing excellent customer service to patients arriving for appointments
  • Check patients in and out, verifying demographic and insurance information in the practice management system
  • Answer multi-line phone system, screen calls, schedule appointments, and direct inquiries appropriately
  • Collect patient co-payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances, processing payments accurately
  • Verify insurance eligibility and obtain pre-authorizations for procedures as needed
  • Scan documents, manage patient paperwork, and maintain organized filing systems
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and schedule follow-up appointments
  • Support practice flow by communicating patient arrivals and status updates to clinical team

3. General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations in both clinical and administrative functions
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure optimal patient flow and care delivery
  • Respond to patient phone calls and portal messages as directed
  • Transition seamlessly between clinical and front office duties as needed to support practice operations
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain professional development

Required Qualifications

  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification through AAMA
  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited medical assistant program
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical medical assistant experience in a GYN setting
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a cross-trained clinical and administrative capacity
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Understanding of GYN procedures and women's health issues
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and transition effectively between clinical and administrative responsibilities
  • Excellent customer service skills with professional phone etiquette
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Ability to sit for extended periods when working front desk shifts
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds
  • Manual dexterity for performing clinical procedures and using medical equipment
  • Visual and auditory acuity adequate to perform job duties

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
