Certified Medical Assistant

Basic Function: Assist physician and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients in an Endocrinologist practice, must have experience in endocrinology or primary care

Job Responsibllities

1. Patient Intake & Rooming

  • Greet patients and bring them to exam rooms
  • Verify patient identity and insurance
  • Update medication lists, allergies, and past medical history
  • Review glucose logs, CGM data, insulin pump settings
  • Record chief complaint and reason for visit
  • Prepare patients for physician/NP evaluation

2. Vitals & Clinical Measurements

  • Height, weight, BMI
  • Blood pressure (sitting & standing orthostatics if needed)
  • Pulse, respiration rate, temperature
  • Capillary glucose testing (fasting/random)
  • Point-of-care A1c testing
  • Diabetic foot exam prep (monofilament, vibratory sensation instrument

3. Lab & Diagnostic Responsibilities

  • Draw blood (venipuncture) for endocrine panels
  • A1c, CMP, TSH/Free T4, cortisol, prolactin, lipid panel, etc.
  • Perform urine tests (microalbumin, ketones, pregnancy test)
  • Prepare and label specimens for lab pickup
  • Run point-of-care tests as ordered

4. Endocrine-Specific Tasks

  • Assist with CGM procedures (Dexcom, Libre, Guardian)
  • Apply sensors
  • Download and print CGM reports
  • Education on sensor use
  • Assist with insulin pump management
  • Download pump data (Tandem, Omnipod, Medtronic)
  • Prep reports for provider
  • Educate patients on:
  • Glucometer use
  • Injection technique
  • Hypoglycemia protocols
  • Support thyroid nodule clinics (prepare ultrasound rooms, supply management)

5. Medication & Orders Management

  • Process prescription refill requests
  • Confirm prior authorizations for GLP-1s, insulin pumps, CGMs
  • Contact pharmacies for clarifications
  • Prepare DME orders (CGM, pump supplies, diabetic shoes)
  • Communicate lab results to patients per provider direction

6. Clinic Flow & Coordination

  • Ensure all return visits are scheduled before patient leaves (your clinic rule)
  • Prep charts before clinic days
  • Maintain room supplies (alcohol pads, sensors, lancets)
  • Assist with phone calls: lab results, triage, scheduling
  • Coordinate with front desk for referrals and authorizations
  • Work with remote patient monitoring teams if applicable

7. Procedures Assistance

  • Assist provider with:
  • Thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) setup
  • Trigger finger injections (if done)
  • Ultrasound-guided procedures prep
  • Maintain procedure room sterility and instrument setup

8. Patient Education & Support

  • Provide printed materials on diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis
  • Teach device setup (Libre apps, Dexcom Clarity, Glooko, T:Connect)
  • Diabetes lifestyle education (diet basics, carb counting overview)
  • Reinforce follow-up testing: A1c every 3 months, urine microalbumin yearly, eye exam yearly

9. Administrative & Compliance Tasks

  • Document all patient interactions in the EHR
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance in communication
  • Maintain logs: refrigerator temps, point-of-care

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
