Position Overview
We are seeking a part-time Medical Assistant / Surgery Scheduler to join our team. This role is unique in offering a hybrid schedule:
- In-Clinic: Assisting with patient care, procedures, and clinical flow.
- Remote (Work From Home): Handling surgery scheduling, patient follow-up calls, insurance authorizations, and administrative tasks.
You will play a key role in supporting our physician and nurse practitioner, ensuring our patients receive seamless, top-quality orthopedic care.
Responsibilities
- Greet and triage patients upon arrival; take vitals, histories, and prepare them for evaluation.
- Assist with in-office procedures, casting, bracing, and DME (durable medical equipment) as needed.
- Maintain clean, organized exam rooms and ensure supplies are stocked.
- Schedule surgeries, obtain pre-authorizations, and coordinate with hospitals and surgical centers.
- Manage incoming calls, patient messages, and follow-up care instructions.
- Document all encounters and scheduling details accurately in the EMR system (Athena preferred; familiarity with Epic and other EMRs is a plus).
- Assist with patient education, reviewing post-operative and treatment plans.
- Support overall clinic efficiency in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certification preferred).
- CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Prior experience in orthopedics, casting, or DME is a plus.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and patient service abilities.
- Proficient with Athena EMR (or similar systems like Epic).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
