Responsibilities

• Accurately assign and review medical codes including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes to ensure proper billing and reimbursement.
• Prepare, review, and submit insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems efficiently.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection procedures, including resubmission and appeals.
• Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to billing.
• Maintain comprehensive medical records and documentation related to billing activities, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures requiring precise ICD coding or DRG classifications.
• Stay current with industry updates related to medical coding standards, including changes in ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding, and other relevant regulations.

Experience

• Proven experience in medical billing with a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding practices.
• Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms used for billing and record management.
• Knowledge of medical records management, insurance processes, and healthcare reimbursement procedures.
• Experience handling medical collections and resolving claim discrepancies efficiently.
• Prior work in a medical office environment is preferred to understand workflow dynamics thoroughly.
• Certification as a Medical Billing Specialist from an accredited organization is required; ongoing education in ICD coding updates is highly valued.
