Certified Nurse Practitioner

JOB SUMMARY : Provides medical evaluation as part of a multi-disciplinary team to alleged victims of child abuse. Reports to Executive Director.

CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER QUALIFICATIONS :

Education : Certified Nurse Practitioner license. Specialty training in child abuse preferred but not required.

Certified Nurse Practitioner Experience : At least one year clinical experience examining and treating pediatric patients preferred but not required

Licensure/Certification : CRNP License, License to practice in Pennsylvania

CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts medical evaluations of children for suspected abuse and neglect.
• Takes appropriate histories, performs physical examination, takes photographs of physical findings, and performs colposcopic evaluations.
• Obtains cultures and lab test and imaging studies.
• Dictates, reviews and signs, in a timely manner, detailed, legally acceptable reports of medical evaluations.
• Reviews and corrects reports to ensure accuracy.
• Includes diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations.
• Works in cooperation with other professionals, both at the CAC and in the community, in providing assessments for suspected abuse.
• Makes appropriate contacts with outside personnel to ensure understanding of relevant historic information and appropriate planning for the evaluation process.
• Debriefs in a timely manner at the time of the appointment with agency personnel to develop cooperative plan for follow-up on assessment and treatment.
• Participates in supervision, peer review, and quality assurance exercises at the CAC.
• Request peer review on cases that pose diagnostic problems.
• Attends professional training for child abuse examiners and reads relevant literature.
• Takes initiative to research and share new information on this specialty.
• Attends trainings and fully utilizes available consultations.
• Seeks input from others on own work.
