Certified Pharmacy Technician

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Answer telephone and handle questions that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise or judgement.
  • Receive written prescriptions or telephoned refills requests.
  • Gather and record information needed to dispense prescriptions.
  • Store written prescription forms after prescriptions are dispensed.
  • Notify pharmacists of patient or prescriber questions and medication warnings or interactions. Never try to answer these questions.
  • Help pharmacists prepare prescriptions by counting, pouring and labeling medications.
  • Keep pharmacy department supplies (bottles, bags, labels, staples, etc.) well-stocked.
  • Order and check-in medications when they arrive from the suppliers.
  • Prepare insurance claims and verify payment.
  • Help patients find OTC when needed medications. Help stock OTC area when needed.
  • Ring purchases on cash registers
  • Perform housekeeping duties within the pharmacy.
  • Handles sensitive customer information.
  • Manage inventory in Rx area
  • Provide excellent customer service by acknowledging the customer and identifying the customer needs as soon as you see them.

Other Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Visually verifies and reads information (often in small print).
  • Reaches overhead and below knees, including pulling, twisting, and bending.
  • Cleaning, sweeping and emptying trash

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Pharmacy technician experience: 1 year (Preferred)
