Certified Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician – Filler is a key operational role within a high-volume compounding pharmacy, responsible for accurately preparing and staging compounded medication orders for pharmacist verification. This position serves as the bridge between Data Entry and Pharmacist teams, ensuring prescriptions are translated into physical preparations efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with SOPs, USP standards, and Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) regulations.

This role requires precision, speed, and strong attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

Order Preparation & Staging

  • Receive and verify fill packets, including prescription labels and batch records
  • Stage all materials, containers, and components prior to preparation
  • Verify lot numbers, expiration dates, and quantities
  • Escalate discrepancies or missing information before proceeding

Compounding & Assembly

  • Prepare non-sterile compounded medications (capsules, creams, gels, oral solutions)
  • Follow all formulas, procedures, and quality standards
  • Ensure accuracy in measurements, calculations, and ingredient selection

Pharmacist Handoff

  • Organize and stage completed orders for pharmacist review
  • Communicate order status, priorities, and issues clearly
  • Support workflow efficiency by managing queue volume and pacing

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow USP <795>/<797> standards, TSBP regulations, and company SOPs
  • Adhere to PPE, hygiene, and cleanroom protocols
  • Maintain a clean, organized, audit-ready workstation
  • Report errors, deviations, or safety concerns immediately

Inventory & Materials

  • Monitor supply levels and communicate shortages
  • Rotate stock using FIFO principles
  • Ensure all materials are within approved use dates

Team Support & Improvement

  • Assist team members during high-volume periods
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and suggest improvements
  • Participate in training, competency assessments, and SOP updates

QualificationsRequired

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Active Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification
  • Active Texas Pharmacy Technician registration (TSBP)
  • 1+ year of pharmacy or production experience
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy calculations and measurements
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Compounding pharmacy experience (non-sterile or sterile)
  • Familiarity with USP <795>, <797>, or <800>
  • Experience with pharmacy systems or compounding software
