Certified Pharmacy Technician (Telepharmacy)

Job Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacists in a telepharmacy environment by assisting with prescription processing, medication dispensing, patient communication, inventory management, and regulatory compliance. Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the technician helps ensure safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy services for patients receiving care remotely.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, enter, and process prescription orders accurately in the pharmacy management system.
  • Assist with medication preparation, packaging, labeling, and dispensing according to pharmacy policies and state regulations.
  • Operate telepharmacy technology, including video conferencing, remote verification systems, and electronic health record (EHR) platforms.
  • Communicate with patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and pharmacy staff regarding prescription information and refill requests.
  • Collect and update patient demographic, insurance, and medication profile information.
  • Process third-party insurance claims and resolve billing issues.
  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation.
  • Monitor medication inventory, order supplies, and assist with stock management.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state pharmacy regulations, and company policies.
  • Support quality assurance activities and participate in workflow improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and report medication discrepancies, errors, or safety concerns to the supervising pharmacist.
  • Provide excellent customer service through phone, video, and electronic communication channels.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent recognized certification.
  • Active pharmacy technician registration/licensure as required by state law.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication names, and pharmacy operations.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software systems and basic computer applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle protected health information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous retail, hospital, mail-order, or telepharmacy experience.
  • Experience with electronic prescribing and pharmacy management systems.
  • Familiarity with insurance billing and prior authorization processes.
  • Bilingual communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of federal and state pharmacy regulations.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with remote healthcare teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with telehealth and remote patient service technologies.

Work Environment

  • Remote, hybrid, or telepharmacy site-based position.
  • Extensive computer and telephone use.
  • May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on operational needs.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive computer tasks.

Pay: $16.00 - $27.97 per hour
