Certified Substance Abuse Counselor

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Duties

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments to evaluate substance use history, mental health status, and overall needs using diagnostic tools aligned with ICD-10 coding standards.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based approaches.
  • Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, relapse prevention, and mental health support.
  • Perform crisis intervention as needed, managing acute situations with professionalism and sensitivity to ensure patient safety.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, intake forms, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including social workers, medical staff, and community care providers—to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Conduct research and data collection to monitor treatment outcomes, improve clinical practices, and support quality assurance initiatives.

Requirements

  • Valid certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (e.g., CADC or equivalent) with active licensure or registration as required by state law.
  • Proven experience in addiction counseling, behavioral health, or mental health settings—preferably within hospital or community care environments.
  • Strong knowledge of psychotherapy modalities such as behavioral therapy, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and crisis management techniques.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for billing purposes, and medical documentation standards.
  • Excellent patient assessment skills combined with the ability to manage complex cases involving PTSD care, child & family counseling, and social work principles.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention strategies and crisis management protocols to ensure immediate safety during emergencies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
