Job Title: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

Secondary Work Location: 12002 N Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78753.

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

We operate multiple facilities, including a dedicated structural steel shop and a separate stainless steel and aluminum fabrication shop. Position Overview: We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) who is not only experienced, but also interested in growing their skillset across a variety of materials and fabrication processes. This role offers the opportunity to work between our two Austin-area shops, gaining hands-on exposure to structural steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialized fabrication work.

This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys variety in their day-to-day work and wants to expand beyond traditional structural steel inspection into more diverse and technically challenging applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections on structural steel, stainless steel, and aluminum weldments
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, D1.6, and project-specific requirements)
  • Review and interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS), PQRs, and shop drawings
  • Monitor in-process fabrication and welding activities across both shop environments
  • Document inspections and maintain detailed, accurate reports
  • Identify non-conformances and collaborate with production teams to implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate with project managers and shop supervisors to maintain quality standards
  • Support internal quality control processes and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Current certification through the American Welding Society (CWI required)
  • 3+ years of welding inspection experience in structural steel or heavy fabrication
  • Working knowledge of AWS codes (D1.1 required; D1.2 & D1.6 a plus)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to uphold quality standards in a production environment
  • Effective communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NDT certifications (UT, MT, PT) are a plus
  • Previous QA/QC experience in a fabrication environment
