Auto Finance Center is a growing automotive group with operations across Virginia and Maryland. We specialize in the "Buy Here Pay Here" (BHPH) business model, providing accessible financing and vehicle ownership opportunities to our customers. We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented financial leader to take full ownership of our company’s daily financial health. You will be the backbone of our multi-state operations, ensuring that our finances are accurate, our employees are paid on time, and our business obligations are met with precision.
Position Summary
The CFO / Controller will be the primary steward of our daily financial operations across all Auto Finance Center locations. This role requires a high degree of reliability and a "get-it-done" attitude. You will manage our cash flow, ensure all bills are paid on time, and handle the end-to-end payroll process. Most importantly, you will ensure our books are maintained with audit-level accuracy and that we remain in full compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations across our VA and MD markets. You will work within QuickBooks Desktop to maintain clean records and provide the financial reporting necessary for us to scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Strategy & Preparation: Own the end-to-end tax process. This includes preparing and filing business tax returns, managing payroll tax compliance for multiple state jurisdictions, and identifying strategies to optimize our tax position for Auto Finance Center.
- Audit-Ready Bookkeeping: Maintain immaculate records in QuickBooks Desktop. Ensure all ledgers are balanced, reconciled, and organized so that our financial statements are always ready for audit or regulatory review.
- Full-Cycle Payroll: Manage the complete, end-to-end payroll process for our team, ensuring 100% accuracy, timely tax filings, and full compliance with all labor regulations in both VA and MD.
- Accounts Payable (Bill Pay): Take full responsibility for the timely payment of all business obligations, including vendor bills, operational expenses, and floor plan interest. Ensure no late payments occur.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with all industry-specific automotive regulations and general financial reporting standards relevant to BHPH operations.
- Cash Management & Reporting: Monitor cash flow to ensure liquidity for vehicle procurement and operational needs; proactively manage and report on upcoming financial obligations and KPIs.
Required Qualifications
- Industry Experience: 5–7+ years in a financial role; specific experience in Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) dealerships or the automotive finance industry is highly preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Expert-level mastery of QuickBooks Desktop is mandatory. You must be capable of cleaning up and maintaining complex company files.
- Tax Expertise: Demonstrated experience handling business tax filings and payroll tax compliance across state lines (VA/MD preferred).
- Reliability: A proven track record of meeting strict, non-negotiable deadlines for payroll, tax filings, and bill payments.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; CPA or MBA preferred.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
