Chemical Technologist – Sizing Formulation
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and optimize sizing formulations for fiber — direct roving and assembled roving
- Ensure sizing compatibility with epoxy, vinyl ester, polyester, phenolic, polypropylene, polyamide, and polyurethane resin systems
- Control and improve fiber performance properties: tensile strength retention, filament integrity, abrasion resistance, and weaving performance
- Conduct laboratory testing, trials, and scale-up validation in the production environment
- Troubleshoot sizing-related production issues and deliver actionable technical solutions
- Collaborate with the Q&C team to standardize formulations across application segments: construction, composites, and thermoplastic reinforcement
- Maintain rigorous documentation of formulations, trials, and technical reports
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related discipline
- 3–5 years minimum experience in fiber sizing, polymer coatings, or composite materials; glass fiber or basalt fiber background strongly preferred
- Strong command of polymer chemistry, silane coupling agents, epoxy systems, and resin-fiber interaction mechanisms
- Proven experience in laboratory formulation development and industrial scale-up
- Background in textile or reinforcement fiber processing is an advantage
KEY TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Fiber surface treatment and sizing chemistry
- Adhesion promotion mechanisms, including silane chemistry
- Thermal and mechanical stability of coatings
- Compatibility testing with construction resins (cementitious and epoxy systems)
- Data analysis and process optimization
PERSONAL PROFILE
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable operating at the Q&C and production interface
- Disciplined in documentation and detail
- Collaborative, with clear communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
