Position Summary
This is a hands-on laboratory execution role for a passionate, driven, detail-oriented technician eager to advance SkyNano’s technology by performing experiments as designed and directed by senior R&D team members. The role offers exposure to cutting-edge synthesis, post-growth processing, and quality analysis of advanced carbon materials. This position is ideal for someone passionate about practical lab work and eager to help scale transformative carbon technologies, advancing SkyNano’s mission to build a robust US supply chain for advanced materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster a collaborative, solution-focused work environment by assisting in R&D efforts daily.
- Coordinate with R&D staff to meet production deadlines and research progress.
- Perform laboratory operations and manage patented electrochemical reactors for daily carbon nanomaterial synthesis.
- Execute experimental protocols with high fidelity, including setup, monitoring, sample collection, and controlled shutdown as directed by R&D leadership.
- Perform basic post-processing steps, such as purification, separation, drying, and massing of carbon nanotube products.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment; follow all SkyNano and regulatory safety protocols. Accurately record raw data, observations, and process deviations physically or digitally in lab notebooks.
- Communicate findings or unexpected results promptly to supervising scientists.
- Prepare shipments of carbon products for external vendors.
- Troubleshoot minor laboratory equipment issues and assist with preventative maintenance as needed.
Required Qualifications
- US citizenship required (due to federal contract work)
- Associate’s degree in chemistry or a related technical field is preferred; strong relevant lab/technical environment experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Familiarity with basic chemical safety and laboratory practices.
- Ability to follow detailed, multistep protocols and adapt to process changes as communicated by senior scientists.
- Strong documentation, communication, and time management skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning new methods and contributing to ongoing improvements in carbon nanomaterial manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience with hands-on experimental work in a chemical or materials laboratory
