Chemotherapy Infusion Nurse

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Chemotherapy Infusion Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. This vital role involves administering chemotherapy and other infusion therapies with precision, compassion, and adherence to the highest standards of patient safety. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to delivering exceptional patient care in a supportive environment. As a Chemotherapy Infusion Nurse, you will play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes through expert infusion techniques and comprehensive care management.

Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other infusion treatments following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor patient responses during infusion procedures, assessing for adverse reactions and providing immediate intervention as necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment plans, potential side effects, and self-care strategies to promote understanding and comfort.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation of treatments administered, patient assessments, and observations in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Ensure strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to prevent complications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, pharmacists, and support staff to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments prior to infusion sessions, including vital signs, medical history review, and physiological evaluations.
  • Assist with triage of patients presenting with acute symptoms or concerns related to their treatment or overall health status.

Qualifications

  • Valid nursing license (RN) with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Oncology certification (OCN) preferred.
  • Proven experience in oncology nursing or infusion therapy within hospital settings or outpatient clinics.
  • Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation and order entry.
  • Strong knowledge of physiology, pharmacology related to chemotherapeutic agents, and aseptic technique procedures.
  • Experience working with complex patient populations including those receiving hospice & palliative care or long-term care services.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding standards, and medication administration protocols specific to oncology treatments.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education, team collaboration, and triage responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in fast-paced environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or specialized outpatient clinics.
