Chest Pain Coordinator

Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary: Responsible for the supervision and delivery of consistent services and care of Chest Pain Patient(s) through the Medical Center. Oversees the organization of services and systems necessary, allowing for a multidisciplinary approach in accordance with the standards of nursing care and practices as defined by Wesley Medical Center, Kansas Nurse Practice Act and The Society of Chest Pain Centers for care of Chest Pain Patient(s). Coordination of care between departments, disciplines and physicians allowing for process improvement in the care of Chest Pain Patient(s). Supports the organization's vision and mission statements. Utilizes knowledge of patients' age and differences in the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of population served, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, while providing care/service with respect to cultural differences and spiritual needs.
  • Performs audits as indicated to monitor compliance with practice standards for Cardiac patients; Participates in data collection, trending of data and communication of findings to appropriate stakeholders to facilitate performance improvement (PI).
  • Chairs focus teams/committees as applicable to perform duties.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency of influence through participation in networking, seminars, workgroups, latitude review and continuing education.
  • Provides direction, consultation and assistance to nursing staff in all aspects of the nursing process to achieve/maintain optimal quality of patient care delivery to a defined population across the Medical Center's standards of care in nursing.
  • Directs, supports and coordinates evidence based nursing practice.
  • Assumes day-to-day responsibility for the Chest Pain Center accreditation.
  • Assumes day-to-day responsibility for process and PI activities as they relate to nursing and ancillary personnel and assists the Cardiovascular Services in carrying out these duties.
  • Conducts, leads and/or coordinates "Case Conferencing" to EMS.
  • Establishes communication and respectful relationships with all disciplines.
  • Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and identifies opportunities for improvement through collaboration.
  • Assumes accountability for identifying problems and issues, generating solutions and anticipating effects of these decisions.
  • Assess, processes and generates ideas for improvement; supports interdisciplinary approach to PI while maintaining individual accountability.
  • Supports positive marketing and public relations through outreach into the community, outlying facilities and public events.
  • Demonstrates the use of quality/performance improvement in daily operations.
  • Routinely reviews issues/complications occurring in all Chest Pain (CP)/cardiac related patients.
  • Routinely reviews overall cardiac/CP statistics and identifies any need for further PI program development.
  • Develops and coordinates annual cardiovascular/CP plan.
  • Meets regularly with CCU manager and Critical Care Director for status reporting.
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice by participation in quality of care activities to initiate, implement and sustain process improvements.
  • Maintains current professional knowledge, acts as a role model/resource to direct nursing care of cardiac patients.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals and objectives for the hospital.
  • Assists in the investigation, documentation and resolution of incidents concerning PIP related to the cardiac patient.
  • Maintains all department records and certifications as required including: CP Certification, GWTG and other data collection as required by the facility.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Registration, Licensure or Certification:

  • Current Licensure in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Current Multi-State Licensure as a Registered Nurse

Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR
  • Successful completion of Dysrhythmia Exam

Required Education or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to multi-task, delegate and prioritize
