Description:

San Diego-based Commercial Property Services Company is seeking an experienced Building Chief Engineer to join our growing team.

Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Location: Will cover properties throughout Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, and San Diego counties

Reports to: Division Manager, General Property

Own your territory, lead in the field, keep critical facilities running at their best. A hands-on leadership role for someone who takes pride in keeping buildings running right.

About the Position

We’re seeking a hands-on Chief Engineer to oversee the maintenance and overall condition of multiple branch locations across Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, and San Diego counties. This is a field-based leadership role responsible for maintaining facilities operations at a high standard through proactive maintenance, rapid response to issues, and consistent site coverage.

You’ll spend your days visiting multiple branches, performing inspections, addressing minor repairs, and identifying larger issues before they become costly problems. You will also support and guide field technicians, help prioritize work across sites, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with client expectations.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being in the field, takes ownership of their territory, and can balance hands-on work with team support and client interaction.

About You

You’re a hands-on leader who takes ownership of your territory and doesn’t wait for problems to escalate; you get ahead of them. You’re just as comfortable troubleshooting an HVAC issue as you are guiding a technician prioritizing multiple sites and communicating with clients.

You take pride in keeping facilities running to a high standard and understand that consistency, responsiveness, and professionalism matter. You’re organized, self-directed, and know how to manage your day in the field while keeping your team aligned and productive. You are someone who leads by example, holding yourself and others accountable to safety, quality, and efficiency. You communicate clearly, solve quickly, and don’t let things fall through the cracks.

You will thrive in this role if you are:

  • Experienced in facilities maintenance (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, general building systems).
  • A strong problem-solver who can troubleshoot issues in real time.
  • Comfortably leading and supporting field technicians throughout the day.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple locations and priorities.
  • Responsive, dependable, and take ownership of your work and territory.
  • Professional and confident when interacting with clients and stakeholders.
  • Tech-savvy enough to handle daily reporting and documentation.
  • Certifications such as EPA Universal HVAC and Electrical/Lockout Tagout Training are required.
Requirements:

Skills and Experience Required:

  • 10 + years of Commercial Building Maintenance.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Universal EPA Certification is required
  • HVAC Certification (or equivalent field experience with demonstrated competency).
  • Electrical Safety/Tagout Training.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 is preferred
  • Facilities Management Certification is desired.
  • Additional trade-specific certifications, such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing etc., are desired.
  • Must have a Valid California Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • This role requires regular travel to support properties across Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, and San Diego counties. A company vehicle is provided.
