Description:
Be Part of Something Radically Different
At Holon Health, we don’t do “business as usual.” We’re a trailblazing healthcare startup reimagining what it means to care—for our clients and our people. We provide whole-person care to justice-involved individuals living with Substance Use Disorder (SUD)—and we do it with deep compassion, community wisdom, and an unshakable belief in second chances.
Our approach throws out the playbook. We integrate medical, behavioral, and social care. We prioritize prevention and recovery. We treat clients like people, not checkboxes. And just as importantly, we know that our team can only care for others if they’re cared for themselves. That’s why we lead with flexibility, trust, and a culture built on well-being, inclusion, and respect.
If you’re energized by meaningful work and want to feel good about how you spend your days, read on.
Position Summary
We’re looking for a hands-on, high-impact Fractional CFO to serve as a strategic architect for Holon Health. As our first-ever CFO, you won’t just manage books; you will build the financial engine that powers our mission. While you will take full ownership of financial planning and analysis, your true directive will be using data-driven insights to optimize every corner of the company, from clinical outcomes to growth strategy.
This is a fractional engagement with a structured time commitment to be defined collaboratively based on organizational needs and your availability. We’re looking for someone who can show up with full presence and real ownership within that scope. Not a consultant at arm’s length, but a genuine member of the leadership team.
If you’re a team-first operator who loves solving problems and thrives in scrappy environments where you’re both strategist and doer, you’ll fit right in here.
What You'll Do
Strategic Growth & Data Leadership
- Partner with the Growth team to fine-tune our go-to-market strategy, using data to identify high-yield payer segments and geographic opportunities
- Collaborate with Product Development to prioritize engineering and design efforts based on projected ROI and impact on patient outcomes
- Work alongside the Clinical team to lead Healthcare Economic and Outcomes Research (HEOR), proving the financial and social value of our care model to payers and partners
- Design innovative compensation and incentive plans that foster deep team alignment with Holon’s mission and performance goals
- Partner with People Operations to develop and optimize predictive staffing models, ensuring workforce planning is grounded in financial sustainability and mission-aligned growth
Operational Excellence & Scalability
- Use financial and operational data to help Practice Management improve efficiency, clinical quality, and regulatory compliance
- Own the overall financial strategy to drive sustainable growth, including building sophisticated financial models, forecasts, and cash planning
- Support the CEO and Board in fundraising efforts (debt and equity), providing the narrative and data needed for investor relations
Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)
- Take full accountability for the RCM lifecycle, leading our existing team to improve outcomes in eligibility, billing, collections, and payer performance
- Serve as the internal expert on health plan contracting and reimbursement economics to ensure we are billing efficiently and correctly
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks in claims, denials, and payer behavior through rigorous KPI tracking
Requirements:
What Your Bring to the Table
- Multidimensional expertise: deep knowledge of healthcare finance paired with an ability to apply that logic to non-finance functions like Product and People
- Fluency in data as a language; you don’t just report numbers, you translate them into actionable strategy
- Startup grit: you’re comfortable building systems from scratch without a massive corporate back-office
- Low ego, high impact: you build trust across departments and value mission over titles
- The ability to operate as both strategist and executor; you’re not afraid of spreadsheets, workflows, or messy processes
- A collaborative leadership style grounded in humility, curiosity, and genuine care for the team
Education and Experience
Required
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership (CFO, VP Finance, or Head of Finance)
- Proven track record in healthcare finance and RCM, specifically within behavioral health or complex care settings
- Experience with multi-site healthcare operations and scaling early-stage startups
- MBA or CPA; experience leading HEOR or data-driven compensation design
- Experience managing and developing teams, including setting clear goals and driving accountability
- Demonstrated ability to operate as both strategist and executor in fast-moving environments
- Prior fractional, interim, or multi-client CFO experience strongly preferred
Preferred
- MBA, CPA, or other advanced finance/accounting credential
- Experience in an early-stage startup or high-growth environment where you helped build functions from scratch
- Experience with behavioral health billing complexity (auths, coding, payer variability, denials)
The Holon Way
We know that fractional leaders do their best work when they’re treated as true partners, not vendors. Here’s what you can expect from us:
- Competitive compensation structured as hourly rate or monthly retainer based on scope and availability
- Equity participation reflecting your role as a founding leadership team member
- Direct access to the CEO and Board: your voice will carry real weight
- A flexible, remote-first engagement that respects your time and other commitments
- A mission-driven team that leads with integrity, moves with purpose, and has your back
- Room to shape the financial infrastructure of a company doing work that genuinely matters

Diversity, equity, and inclusion aren’t buzzwords here: they’re the foundation. We embrace the full spectrum of human experience and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. If you’re passionate about our mission but don’t meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.
