Role Purpose Statement:-

The incumbent would be responsible for direct and manage performance of the Rail Express & its operations, maintain consistent practices across the country, managing business and operations as per plan & align that plan with the company’s mission and strategy at TCI Express Ltd.

Main Accountabilities:-

  • Designing & Implementing the Annual Operating Plan for Rail Express.
  • Design and manage pan-India rail express networks, optimizing routes, schedules and hub locations
  • To achieve products, Rail Express target business & YOY Growth.
  • Drive expansion into Tier 2, Tier 3 cities to enable wider Rail Express reach.
  • Manage relations with Indian Railways and private rail operators to secure and optimize cargo movement slots.
  • Lead the operations of cargo handling at origin and destination stations, ensuring timely and secure loading/unloading.
  • Preparing short term and long-term business Strategies & operational plans for Rail Express.
  • Build and scale a seamless pickup-to-delivery system for Rail Express shipments.
  • Ensure operational compliance, security, and safety standards in rail Express Cargo handling.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations across all logistics functions including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and last-mile delivery.
  • Own the P&L for the Rail Express verticals.
  • Identify inefficiencies in operations and implement solutions to improve service levels, reduce costs, and streamline processes.
  • Adherence to all safety, legal, and regulatory standards applicable to logistics and transportation
  • Set and monitor KPIs for operational efficiency, cost control, and customer SLAs.
  • Collaborate with product & technology teams to implement end-to-end shipment visibility.
  • Effective control on budget receivables, monitoring direct and indirect cost, monitoring utilization of capital budgeting as per Company plan.
  • Achievement of profit as per plan, managing finance to meet financial requirements of the Company.
  • Resource planning to meet business needs including infrastructure, human resource, capital, finance etc.
  • Plan for Leading initiative for optimization of cost/ expenses, new initiatives on operations optimization, innovation, automation etc.
  • Lead large, cross-functional operations teams across rail corridors and cities.
  • Integrate mobile-based solutions for Rail cargo partner onboarding, and operations tracking.
  • Initiative takes for improving operational efficiency
  • Execution of plan for increasing customer penetration, development of key account, visit/ meeting with key customers/ big account, and organizing customer meet as per company plan.
  • Execution of brand development plan, driving initiative to raise satisfaction level of customer.
  • High level of customer satisfaction through reliable service, timely delivery, and problem resolution.
  • Identifying Training & development needs of key team members and preparing a development plan
  • Lead, mentor, and develop cross-functional teams including regional managers and fleet/ OPS team.
  • Initiatives on HR front to raise employee’s satisfaction, employee engagement, express culture building etc.

Qualification:

  • Graduate/ Post Graduate/Professional, MBA or relevant postgraduate degree with Ex rail board employment is preferred.

Experience –

  • Minimum of 20-25 years in logistics, 15+ years in logistics rail operations with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics operations, including warehousing, transportation, inventory and customer service
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of railway operations, freight scheduling, and hub-spoke logistics.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of customs laws, regulations, and procedures in India.
  • Familiarity with HS codes, tariff classifications, import/export documentation, and duty structures.
  • Familiarity with free trade agreements, duty exemptions, and special economic zones.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to deal with customs authorities and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and customs software.
