As we’re deep into America’s semiquincentennial celebrations and with HA’s 75th anniversary next year, and the planned reopening of the James Brice House coming too, this is an exciting time to join our team!

Summary: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management and organizational effectiveness of Historic Annapolis. The COO is responsible for working closely with the President and CEO in maximizing the organization’s operating performance and achieving its mission and goals. Responsibilities include high-level program management of essential tasks, creating cross-departmental cooperation and effectiveness, working closely with senior staff in identifying priorities and problem solving, and ensuring sound policies and procedures in place. This role oversees the organization's senior management team and is responsible for driving operational excellence.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages the Vice Presidents of Preservation, Education, Communications, Development, and Finance. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, , Organizational Leadership, or a related field. Master’s Degree and experience in nonprofit organizations, museums, cultural institutions, preservation organizations, or mission-driven organizations considered a plus. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience managing multiple departments, teams, or organizational functions.
