Position Summary
ScholarRx is seeking a dynamic Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead our technology strategy, execution, and innovation efforts. The CTO will oversee all aspects of technology operations—including infrastructure, application development, data and AI strategy, security, and technical support—while serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team.
This role shapes and executes the company’s long-term technology vision, ensuring that engineering, product, and business teams work in tight alignment to deliver scalable, market-ready solutions.

While the company is virtual, much of the technical team is based in Louisville, KY—providing both remote flexibility and opportunities for in-person collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and articulate the company’s technology vision, long-term architecture strategy, and innovation roadmap, with emphasis on AI-driven capabilities and data-informed decision-making.
- Lead and oversee all technology functions including engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, DevOps, data, AI/ML initiatives, and product-related technologies.
- Partner closely with the CEO and executive team to ensure technology strategy accelerates business objectives, product-market fit, and scalable growth.
- Act as a strategic advisor to business unit leaders (Marketing, Sales, Operations, Product) to ensure technology solutions accelerate business outcomes, including effective commercialization, customer adoption, and competitive differentiation.
- Provide visionary and operational leadership to the technology organization, ensuring alignment with company culture, mission, and values.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive development —particularly in AI—and apply them to product evolution, innovation initiatives, and operational efficiency.
- Champion a culture of innovation, curiosity, accountability, and continuous improvement across the technology team.
- Strengthen the integration between technology, product, and business teams by establishing effective collaboration models, communication practices, and decision-making frameworks, supporting rapid experimentation and delivery.
- Drive the organization’s data and AI strategy, enhancing responsible application of data and AI in internal systems and customer-facing products.
- Oversee coaching, development, and performance management across engineering, application development, and infrastructure teams.
- Own technology’s contribution to the product lifecycle—from discovery and prototyping through launch, iteration, and scaling.
- Engage directly with clients and prospects to gather feedback, understand needs, shape product and technology requirements, and validate technical and AI-focused enhancements.
- Evaluate, negotiate, and manage strategic technology partnerships—including vendors serving the higher education and EdTech sectors. This includes emerging AI/ML providers where relevant.
- Oversee the technology budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and responsibly.
- Ensure compliance, security, and high standards of system performance, availability, and reliability.
Required Technical & Leadership Experience
- BS in a related field (graduate degree preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in the Information Technology field.
- Minimum 5 years of senior leadership experience, ideally at the Director, VP, or CTO level.
- Strong executive communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across business functions.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, mentor, and motivate high-performing technical teams.
- Proven experience leading teams in application development, infrastructure, cloud environments, and systems architecture.
- Track record of managing full lifecycle software development and delivering products to market in collaboration with product teams.
- Experience with marketing systems, CRM platforms, and LMS solutions.
- Experience with or exposure to AI/ML technologies and integrating AI capabilities into products or internal systems.
- EdTech or higher education technology experience strongly preferred.
