Chief Technology Officer (CTO) - Enterprise B2B Data Analytics Platform

We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on Chief Technology Officer to lead our engineering organization. This is not a purely strategic role – we need someone who can write code, conduct rigorous code reviews, make critical architectural decisions, and build a world-class high-concurrency data analytics platform. You will work directly with the CEO to drive technical vision while remaining deeply involved in day-to-day engineering execution.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & Architecture

• Define and drive the technical architecture for our high-concurrency analytics platform
• Make critical decisions on system design, technology choices, and infrastructure
• Design scalable, distributed systems capable of processing millions of events with sub-second query response times
• Lead architectural reviews and ensure engineering excellence across the codebase
• Stay ahead of technology trends and evaluate new tools and frameworks

Hands-On Engineering

• Write production code and contribute to critical components of the platform
• Conduct thorough code reviews with focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability
• Debug complex system issues and performance bottlenecks
• Optimize high-concurrency systems for throughput and latency
• Build and maintain core platform infrastructure and data pipelines

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team in Bangalore
• Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and development workflows
• Drive hiring strategy to build a high-performing engineering organization
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation
• Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning

Product & Strategy

• Partner with CEO on product roadmap and technical feasibility
• Balance technical debt with feature development and platform improvements
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Drive engineering velocity and ensure on-time delivery of key initiatives
• Manage relationships with key enterprise customers on technical matters

Required QualificationsTechnical Expertise

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with deep backend systems knowledge
• 5+ years of experience building and scaling high-concurrency, distributed systems
• Strong expertise in backend technologies: Java and/or Python for production systems
• Deep understanding of databases: PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar
• Extensive experience with streaming data platforms: Apache Flink, Kafka, or similar event processing systems
• Expert knowledge of system design: microservices, APIs, data modeling, caching strategies
• Cloud infrastructure expertise: AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes, containerization, IaC (Terraform)
• Performance optimization: profiling, monitoring, debugging high-scale systems

Systems & Architecture Knowledge

• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, replication, partitioning, fault tolerance
• Experience with high-concurrency patterns: async processing, connection pooling, load balancing
• Knowledge of data pipeline architectures: ETL/ELT, stream processing, batch processing
• Understanding of analytics query optimization and columnar databases
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring: DataDog, Grafana, Prometheus, distributed tracing

Leadership & Experience

• 3+ years in engineering leadership roles (Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, or senior technical leadership)
• Proven track record in enterprise B2B SaaS product companies
• Experience building products that successfully serve enterprise customers at scale
• Track record of hiring and developing strong engineering teams
• Experience working closely with founders/CEOs in growth-stage companies

Coding & Review Skills

• Active coder – must be comfortable writing production code regularly
• Strong code review skills with ability to provide constructive, detailed feedback
• Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and best practices
• Ability to read and understand complex codebases quickly
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineering degree from top-tier institution (Computer Science, Engineering, or related field)
• Experience in analytics, BI, data platforms, or business intelligence companies
• Background in fast-growing SaaS startups that scaled to significant ARR
• Experience with real-time analytics or event processing platforms
• Previous experience as founding engineer or early technical hire
• Contributions to open source projects or technical thought leadership
• Experience managing geographically distributed teams
• Knowledge of security best practices and compliance requirements (SOC2, GDPR)

You've built high-scale backend systems before and understand the tradeoffs between different architectural approaches.
