Child and Family Advocate / Forensic Interviewer

Job Type: Full-time

Requirements: Preferred Bachelors Degree in Social Work (BSW) or related field. Two years work experience in a related field preferred. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to work with many different professions. Previous experience in the area of child abuse or child welfare is preferred. Must have a flexible nature. Bilingual applicants desired.

Purpose:

  • To advocate for successful case resolutions for children. Influence, through professional communication and actions, institutions/others towards a better understanding and treatment of child sexual abuse issues.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with child victims of alleged sexual and physical abuse using Childfirst protocol. To reduce systemic trauma to children and their families.

Child Advocate / Forensic Interviewer responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Conduct highly specialized, neutral fact-finding interview with primary and secondary child victims of abuse without bias using the Childfirst protocol.
  • Provide court testimony in civil or criminal cases, as needed.
  • Maintain consistent contact with family and others involved in the investigation.
  • Provide crisis intervention and referrals to persons in need.
  • Provide referrals and facilitate linkage for child and their families.
  • Stay current in relevant issues through training, reading and education (providing and receiving). Upon request, give a report on chosen, relevant subject at CAC Staff meeting.
  • Foster open and positive relationships and network with other agencies and the community at large.
  • Maintain records of CAC clients for the tracking of child abuse from the initial CAC contact to case disposition using tracking system.
  • Attend all Center Case Review team meetings and MDT meetings.
  • Assist in researching, developing, and maintaining resource list for clients.
  • Adhere to schedule of work hours, which may vary according to the needs of the Center.
  • Provide on-call services as needed and carry a on-call cellphone on rotating weeks (shared jointly with other staff members).
  • Assist director and other staff members as needed.
