Position Description:
This position contributes to the mission of The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri by providing advocacy, crisis support and case management services to child victims of sexual and physical abuse and for children who witness violence/crimes and their involved family members and caretakers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Receive referrals via email, fax, or phone from multidisciplinary (MDT) members.
- Accurately enter each case’s information into the database.
- Begin the scheduling of appointments for forensic interviews of children by contacting all MDT members.
- Contact involved caregiver to provide information on our center, educate about the process of the forensic interview, deescalate crisis, schedule forensic interviews and offer support.
- Greet and welcome children and families when they arrive at the agency for services.
- Ensure that the correct paperwork is completed by caregiver and disseminated to assigned CAC staff.
- Answer Children’s Services phone line- direct calls appropriately, provide support for crisis calls made to the agency and maintain documentation for crisis call support.
- Provide a trauma informed environment by ensuring that the child and families basic needs are met.
- After the post Meeting, ensure that the involved caregiver has an opportunity to complete the NCA Outcome Management Survey (OMS) regarding their experience at the agency.
- Enter, analyze and summarize all OMS responses.
- Provide crisis intervention to child and the involved caretaker which may include both crisis-calls and in-person crisis situations.
- Participate fully in the pre and post interview meetings with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
- Ensure children and the involved caretaker get the culturally-sensitive support, education and resources they need to overcome the trauma of abuse.
- Provide psychoeducation to involved caregivers and the community on variety of abuse related topics.
- Connect the involved caretaker with necessary resources in the community.
- Coordinate SAFE exams for children and make sure the medical provider has the necessary information for the child.
- Complete the OMS Initial Caregiver Survey with each family after the post interview meeting.
- Maintain contact with the involved caretaker to ensure their needs are met, answer questions and provide on-going support.
- Assist families in applying for Victim Compensation.
- Assist with the organization, management, and facilitation of multidisciplinary team case reviews for all assigned counties. This role may be done in conjunction with the Forensic Services Coordinator.
- Keep MDT members informed of new cases and developments in existing cases.
- Provide, or arrange for, court preparation services for children having to testify in court if a victim advocate from the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is unavailable.
- Maintain contact notes for assigned cases and files.
- Follow all NCA accreditation standards and best practices.
- Complete monthly billing for the assigned grant.
- Participate in regular supervision meetings.
- Attend office and community meetings as well as trainings as requested by supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a human service field or criminal justice plus one-year direct services experience working with abused children and families. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Candidate should possess strong organizational skills, have the ability to multitask and have a strong commitment to direct services for children and families. Candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team within the agency as well as the multidisciplinary team.
