We are seeking a dedicated and nurturing Childcare Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and a strong understanding of early childhood development. This role involves creating a safe, engaging, and educational environment for children while supporting their growth and learning through various activities.
Duties
The responsibilities of this position are many and varied and will be determined by factors such as the number of children enrolled, ages served, hours of operation, and specific requirements of each facility. Supervise and ensure the safety of children in your care at all times.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities that promote learning and development.
- Assist with daily routines such as meals, naps, and hygiene practices.
- Foster positive relationships with children to encourage their emotional and social development.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's progress and any concerns.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment conducive to play and learning.
- Observe children's behavior to identify any developmental issues or concerns.
- Act in accordance with the policies and procedures of Thomason Childcare Solutions.
- Be knowledgeable of and adhere to state licensing regulations.
- Attend weekly team meetings and monthly childcare meetings.
- Respect the confidentiality of Thomason Childcare Solutions families and team members.
- Attend continuing education training to complete required hours.
- Follow the policies and procedures of the program's nutrition program, “Ventura Food Program”.
- Help children maintain good hygiene such as washing hands, toileting, and diaper changes.
- Assist with the inventory of food, cleaning, and office supplies.
- Assist with program field trips, school transportation, and or store runs.
- Celebrate holidays such as birthdays, Halloween and or Christmas events,
- Develop and encourage age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts, such as communication, manners, sharing, etc.
- Helping children discover new interests by introducing them to art, music, sports, and other potential hobbies.
- Prepare our preschoolers to enter the next level of care or for entry into school.
- Actively communicate in conversations through GroupMe and Brightwheel.
- Childcare Assistants have some limited administrative duties as requested by the Program Director.
- Childcare Assistants are responsible for creating a curriculum for the classroom, submitting the curriculum to the Program Director for approval, following the approved curriculum, supervising children at all times, making sure each child is receiving adequate care, making sure each child is making progress in learning.
Enrollment and work needs change from day to day and from season to season. To maintain state licensing ratios and be cost-efficient, staff may be assigned to different classrooms, groups, or program facilities. In addition, hours of work or job classification may change based on the program's needs. These re-assignments will be done fairly and equitably. No employee will be guaranteed full or part-time employment or set scheduled hours of employment. Staff will be scheduled as needed. Saturday and Sunday hours will vary.

- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
- Experience in childcare settings such as daycare, nannying, or babysitting.
- Familiarity with childhood development milestones and age-appropriate activities.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to create a nurturing environment that supports children's emotional needs.
- Patience, creativity, and adaptability in handling various situations that arise in childcare settings.
- Manage a valid California Driver's License.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be able to multitask.
