POSITION SUMMARY:
The Onsite Supervisor oversees daily operations and routines within the childcare center to provide a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children in care. The supervisor enforces Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regulations and helps implement the center’s policies and procedures. The Onsite Supervisor is present during hours of operation for a minimum of six hours per day and performs their duties under the guidance and supervision of the Child Care Center Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities: Establishing the Organization

Assist the director in preparing the Center in accordance with policies and procedures and licensing standards to ensure timely opening.
Responsibilities: Center Operational Duties

Help to maintain and update (when necessary) all Center records.

Assist in managing all payments to the Center for child care services and ensure prompt payment in accordance with the Center's policies and procedures.

Assist in managing all service contracts for the Center and order required items for Center operations.

Order approved materials and supplies for classroom programs and activities.
-
Represent the Center in the community.
-
Establish and maintain a healthy, safe, and enjoyable working and learning environment for staff, parents, children, and visitors.

Perform other duties as assigned by the director.
Responsibilities: Staff
-
Responsible for effectively managing and resolving issues with and between staff, parents and children.

Responsible for addressing personnel matters and implementing solutions that are in the best interest of the Center.

Supervise staff on an ongoing basis, including developing and implementing curriculum plans.

Create appropriate staff schedules to adhere to all state and Center requirements, including staff/child ratios.

Ensure staff compliance with all Center policies and procedures.
-
Ensure compliance with confidentiality requirements and policies.
Responsibilities: Children/Parents/Guardians

Ensure all enrollment and discharge information is documented, complete, and maintained.

Ensure all records are complete, updated, and accurate.

Assist in ensuring that the Center meets all DHS licensing requirements. This includes, but is not limited to:

Standards of Health and Safety (Sanitation)
-
Learning environment and curriculum
-
Nutrition and food preparation
-
Physical safety and well-being of children and staff
-
Emergency policies and regulations
-
Assist in executing policies and procedures that ensure the well-being of children. This includes but is not limited to:

Developmentally appropriate curriculum
-
Positive behavior management plans
-
Safe arrival and departure
-
Maintain an environment that is tolerant and respectful of child and family cultures, values and differences.

Establish relationships with individual children and families and be responsive to requests, comments and concerns.
-
Provide care in classrooms as needed to meet safety and licensing regulations.
-
Provide families with information and assistance with community resources.
-
Report evidence of suspected abuse/neglect to Iowa Department of Human Services.
Experience/Education
-
Must be at least 18 years of age.
-
Must score at least 75 points under Iowa’s point system through a combination of education, experience, and child development-related training, including at least 10 points stemming from related experience (but not more than 50 points from any one category).

Previous experience in a childcare setting is preferred.
-
Must have experience of working directly with children.
-
Must have experience supervising and leading the work of others.
-
Ability to maintain a high degree of efficiency in changing from one task to another and establishing priorities.

Must be able to meet and maintain certification through the Iowa Department of Human Services as an Onsite Supervisor.
Additional Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 35-40 pounds and move frequently to respond to children’s needs.

Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Reliable, flexible, and passionate about working with children.

Mandatory reporter training for child abuse in Iowa (required within 30/90 days of employment).

Successful background checks (criminal, fingerprint, sex offender, and child abuse registries) and physical exam.

Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Certifications:

Mandatory Reporter Training for Child Abuse (successful completion upon hire).

Current pediatric and adult CPR and First Aid certification (successful completion upon hire).
Physical Qualifications:
-
Position requires constant lifting, twisting, stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching. Pushing and pulling may be required. Frequently exposed and subject to changes in temperature and humidity, vapor, fumes, odors and infectious disease conditions.

Must be able to routinely lift 30-40 pounds.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise all staff of the childcare center, including substitute staff and volunteers.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Must be able to operate computer and other office machines such as fax, calculator, telephone, etc.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional district wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours, frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be called upon to work overtime or odd schedules. Typically works in an office setting, although may be called upon to work in the classroom. This position requires proficient organizational and communication skills. Must be able to perform several tasks at one time. This job requires the individual to be able to read, write and communicate with a diverse set of staff, children, youth, and parents/guardians.
