Child Care Group Leaders-Summer 2026

Job description: Child Care Group Leader -seasonal
Summer 2026

Rate of pay: $16.00 to $20.00/hour (depending on experience, education (college credits), and other qualifications). 20-30 hours/week, depending on site. Payscale based on staffing qualifications criteria of BrightStars childcare assessment system.

We have openings for Group Leaders at three of our clubhouse sites in Providence. Group Leaders lead (or assist Specialist Instructors with) fun activities for ages 5-12 in sports & games, arts & crafts, outdoor play, indoor games, STEM, and more. We are currently recruiting summer staff, and there will also be opportunities to apply for school-year seasonal positions after the summer.

Group Leaders for Arts, Sports & Games, S.T.E.M., Social Recreation:

· Lead (or assist Specialist Instructor with) fun and engaging activities

· Teach rules and skills related to the type of activity

· Instill BGCP values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive ways to resolve conflict

· Supervise members for safety and behavior management

· Assist with recognizing and celebrating members’ achievements

· Ensure that equipment and supplies are used safely and appropriately.

· Assist Specialists to incorporate national Boys & Girls Clubs of America programs and resources as part of the program schedule.

Summer work schedule (depends on the specific site):

  • Must be available from June 24 through August 21 (no work on July 1, 2, 3 and August 7 and 10; and no weekend work).
  • South Side or Chad Brown locations: Monday through Friday 1:00 to 6:00 PM.
  • Fox Point location: Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Age 18 or older (required)
  • High School diploma (required).
  • Minimum of 12 college credits (preferred).
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Youth Development, Child Development or related field* (preferred). See list of related fields below.
  • At least one year of youth-related work experience in a group setting (required).
  • Previous youth-related work experience in an urban, diverse setting (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading activities for school-age children (required).
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate positively with youth of ages 5-12.
  • Ability to follow child safety and behavior management policies and procedures of organization.
  • Ability to successfully pass all background checks, including but not limited to: national, state, and local background checks; RI and applicable out-of-state Child Abuse Registry clearances; continuous criminal records monitoring during course of employment; education and employment verifications; reference checks; pre-employment drug screen (for illegal drugs).
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (can be earned during training days if not current).

Payrates for part-time Child Care Group Leaders are below. These payrates are designed to attract and retain qualified staff who can provide high-quality activities and experiences for children, and who can help BGCP attain the highest-possible BrightStars ratings for staff qualifications. College transcript(s) will be required for credit documentation.

· 12 - 23 college credits: $16 - $17/hour, depending on experience

· 24 - 59 college credits: $17 - $18/hour, depending on experience

· 60 or more college credits (no degree): $18 - $19/hour, depending on experience

· Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (any field): $19/hour

· Associate's Degree in Youth Development, Child Development or related field*: $20/hour

· Bachelor's Degree with at least 18 credits in Youth Development, Child Development or related field: $20/hour

*Related fields: Youth Development, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Recreation, Child & Family Services.

Job Type: Part-time seasonal (Summer). There will also be opportunities to apply for seasonal school-year positions prior to the Fall.
