Position Summary
The Child Care Staff Member supports a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children. This role assists in implementing curriculum, supervising children, and maintaining compliance with state licensing regulations. Staff members work collaboratively to promote children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Key Responsibilities
Child Supervision & Safety
- Provide active supervision of children at all times.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each child.
- Follow all center policies and state licensing regulations.
- Maintain accurate attendance and transition counts.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and incidents.
Curriculum & Classroom Support
- Assist in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
- Support individual and group activities that promote learning and engagement.
- Help prepare classroom materials and learning centers.
- Encourage positive behavior using approved guidance techniques.
- Support inclusion and individualized learning needs.
Health & Sanitation
- Follow proper handwashing and sanitation procedures.
- Assist with meals and snacks in accordance with health guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
Family Communication
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with families.
- Share daily information regarding children’s activities and needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of children and families.
Team Collaboration
- Participate in staff meetings and required trainings.
- Support classroom coverage as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with young children preferred.
- Ability to meet state licensing requirements (background check, medical statement, required trainings).
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of child development principles.
- Ability to engage children in positive learning experiences.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain patient, flexible, and organized.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage with children.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced early childhood setting.
- Requires standing, bending, lifting, and frequent movement.
- Both indoor and outdoor supervision required.
