Job Overview
The YWCA Cortland is seeking a caring, reliable, and motivated Child Care Teaching Assistant to support our early childhood program. This role assists the lead teacher in planning and supervising daily activities while helping create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children. The position aligns with the mission of the YWCA and follows New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations.
Responsbilities
- Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities
- Supervise children to ensure safety and positive behavior
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy classroom environment
- Support daily routines such as snack time, transitions, and group activities
- Complete daily records and documentation as needed
- Build positive, supportive relationships with children
- Provide nurturing care and respond to individual needs
- Communicate effectively with families, staff, and supervisors
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development
- Assist with program events and activities
- Step into a leadership role when the lead teacher is absent
Qualifications
- High school diploma or at least 18 years of age
- Previous experience working with children preferred
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Dependable, flexible, and positive attitude
Schedule
- Hours typically range between 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Flexible schedule based on program needs
Pay: $16.60 - $16.80 per hour
