The Hill City Sports Center is Lynchburg’s premier indoor sports and child care facility, located at 118 Davis Cup Road Lynchburg, VA. With over hard courts, dedicated child care space, swimming pools, a splash pad, wrestling center, and restaurant, HCSC offers leagues, camps, aquatics, child care, clinics, and tournaments for youth and adults. Sports played in the facility include swimming, volleyball, basketball, futsal, field hockey, pickleball, wrestling, martial arts, cheer/dance, dodgeball, and other social sports.

As the Child Care/Youth Program Director at the HCSC, you will help spearhead the launch of our new comprehensive youth programming. Included in this exciting venture is getting the facility as a licensed child care day center. You will be instrumental in helping to create a supportive and engaging environment.

HCSC is managed by Eastern Sports Management based in Fredericksburg, VA. Eastern Sports Management currently manages twelve facilities across six states (VA, MD, OK, TN, WV, & PA).

Job Summary

The Child Care/Youth Program Director manages all aspects of the youth program department including child care, child watch, camps, before & after care, youth sports classes and clinics, birthday parties, and all other youth programming within HCSC to maximize market engagement and facility profitability. This is a salary exempt position. As part of the leadership team, the Child Care/Youth Program Director will report directly to the General Manager.

Managerial Tasks

  • Maintain child care licensing files (facility and personnel).

  • Able to work irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
  • Hire, train, and manage staff; Prepare and submit departmental budget to General Manager for approval
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the General Manager & Ownership

Before & After Care, Child Care, and Camps

  • Make decisions regarding camp programming in collaboration with General Manager

  • Hold periodic camp staff meetings to review procedures, policies, department changes, etc.
  • Schedule, organize and coordinate camps
  • Develop creative curriculum for camps in collaboration with camp staff
  • Handle all issues and injuries pertaining to camps; complete and submit proper documentation
  • Ensure collection of payments for camps is complete prior to start of programming
  • Monitor inventory and order camp supplies as necessary
  • Authorize purchase of instructional materials and teaching aids such as books, toys, and games designed to stimulate learning
  • Evaluate and supervise camp staff
  • Confer with parents regarding facility activities, policies, and enrollment procedures
  • Confer with camp staff regarding child's behavioral or learning problems, and recommend methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences
  • Reviews and evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to state and local regulations

Youth Programming

  • Organize youth programs and classes

  • Write creative curriculum for classes
  • Collect payments for youth programs and parties prior to start of program
  • Schedule, organize, staff and direct youth programs

Birthday Parties

  • Make decisions regarding birthday party offerings in collaboration with General Manager

  • Hold periodic Birthday Party Host staff meetings to review procedures, policies, department changes, etc.
  • Schedule, organize and coordinate birthday parties
  • Collect payments for birthday parties prior to start of program
  • Contact guests to confirm party details
  • Create weekly party sheets and inform various departments (Front Desk, Birthday Parties and Food & Beverage) of party details.
  • Monitor inventory and order party supplies as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who do not meet the Child Care/Youth Program Director Qualification requirements set forth in 22VAC40-185-190 will not be considered.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following or be willing to obtain them prior to running any licensed programming:

  • MAT Certification

  • CPR & 1 Aid Certification

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a child care field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • The Child Care/Youth Programs Director normally works in a temperature and humidity-controlled office environment. Frequent exposure to outside environmental conditions may be required to observe and evaluate subordinates.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
