JOB TITLE: CHILD NUTRITION ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN
FLSA STATUS__-NON-EXEMPT
PAY GRADE: M
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs skilled and responsible accounting/secretarial work in support of the Child Nutrition Program. Assists with a wide variety of office duties. Reports to the Child Nutrition Supervisor/Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Compiles reports by school for financial status, plate costs, labor hours, participation, etc. and upon completion, runs and files reports.
Compiles data to be submitted to the State Department of Public Instruction for USDA reimbursement and, upon completion, notifies Child Nutrition Supervisor that reports may be submitted.
Provides information for all local, state and federal audits.
Learns operation of CMS (Cafeteria Management Software) and POS (Point of Sale) software and all its applications as they pertain to inventory, purchasing and cafeteria management.
Verifies deposits and daily deposit reconciliation and reports any discrepancies to manager and Child Nutrition Supervisor.
Maintains free and reduced application data, including processing incoming applications and withdrawals, running daily rosters and notifying managers of any changes.
Processes all vendors’ accounts payable and receivable.
Maintains an accurate food and supply inventory system.
Prepares bids per Supervisor’s instructions and double checks all extensions of bid submittal.
Generates all Purchase Requisitions, including all weekly orders.
Reviews purchases for State Contract via computerized State search and assigns purchase order numbers accordingly, including invoices for large equipment purchases (fixed assets).
Maintains overall budget integrity by monitoring account codes on a routine basis.
Receives and distributes USDA commodities and monitors weekly add ons and shortages.
Troubleshoots problems related to technology utilized in performing job duties.
Serves as Point of Sale resource person.
Maintains Linker data system.
Performs duties related to Student Data Manager (NCWISE) for Child Nutrition.
Monitors for testing, Career and Educational, Reading 1st, etc.
Serves as Homeless McKinney Vento liaison.
Works in conjunction with the Child Nutrition Supervisor and Director to obtain goals and objectives of overall operation.
Provides assistance as needed, giving attention to deadlines based on department priorities.
Generates and types a variety of information with accuracy and neatness; i.e.: menus, calendars, booklets, forms and memos.
Performs general clerical duties such as distribution of office supplies, collating, copying, etc.
Submits daily maintenance requests as needed.
Distributes incoming mail and processes outgoing mail.
Receives telephones calls and handles appropriately.
Works independently to resolve problem situations as appropriate.
Attends professional meetings as required.
Projects a positive image for the Franklin County Child Nutrition Program.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with special projects and functions as needed to enhance the Franklin County Child Nutrition Program.
Recommends improvements in workflow, procedures and utilization of equipment and forms.
Assists in a variety of department operations; performs special projects and assignments as requested; and prepares reports.
Gathers, assembles and summarizes data and information.
Participates in the duties related to the administration of an office.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Child Nutrition Supervisor/Director.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and two years of college, business, technical or vocational school and possess adequate computer skills with three years of experience in bookkeeping/accounting preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Requires light physical work. Must be able to lift mail and boxes up to ten pounds. Must be able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple to complex forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using prescribed format.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a keyboard.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under average levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk, write and hear.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping.
Considerable knowledge of accounting techniques and procedures.
Ability to interpret and analyze reports and information.
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite products
Considerable ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the public, businesses, and other administrative personnel.
Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships with others in exercising discretion and action in the performance of assigned work.
Ability to utilize positive human relation skills in fulfilling requests for assistance as appropriate.
Demonstrated proficiency operating a computer with Windows based navigation with accuracy at the speed necessary for the position.
Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Ability to compile and summarize information.
Ability to resolve problem situations with sound judgment.
Ability to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters relating to the school system.
Ability to organize work, take on special projects and assignments and exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments.
Knowledge of business letter writing and memos.
Ability to compose correspondence independently.
Ability to proofread documents generated within the Child Nutrition Department.
Ability to work in the absence of supervision.
