Assistant Director – Early Childhood Education
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Director to support the daily leadership and operations of our early learning center. This role is ideal for a motivated early childhood professional who is passionate about high-quality education, staff development, and building strong relationships with families.
The Assistant Director plays a key role in ensuring program excellence, maintaining licensing and compliance standards, and fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities
Teacher & Classroom Support
Provide daily classroom walkthroughs and offer constructive coaching to teachers.
Support teacher growth and professional development aligned with career goals.
Conduct monthly check-ins to monitor classroom progress and staff well-being.
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality teaching staff.
- Ensure lesson plans are completed and implemented consistently across age groups.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate child files, emergency contacts, and required documentation.
Manage digital accounts and parent information in center management systems.
File incident reports, organize classroom paperwork, and prepare daily sheets.
Maintain updated center and classroom bulletin boards with current information.
- Track immunizations, physicals, rosters, and other required reports.
Compliance & Safety
Stay current on state and regulatory requirements (ELC, OEL, DCF, etc.).
Conduct daily classroom inspections and report concerns promptly.
Ensure classrooms adhere to licensing standards and ratio requirements.
- Provide support for staff breaks, coverage needs, and classroom routines.
Family & Community Engagement
Model professional communication with families, staff, and visitors.
Participate in parent–teacher conferences.
Assist in planning center events such as graduations, book fairs, and seasonal programs.
- Support activities that build positive family relationships and enhance center culture.
Inventory & Resource Management
Oversee inventory for classroom materials, paperwork, and food items.
Maintain organized supply areas and ensure adequate resources are available.
- Collaborate with the Educational Coordinator to identify and prepare curriculum materials.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in early childhood education, with experience in all age groups.
- Current CDA, FCCPC, or equivalent early childhood certification.
Completion of required DCF 40-Hour Training and VPK endorsements.
Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification
Ability to train and support staff across all classroom positions.
Experience with center management systems (Procare preferred).
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Actively working toward obtaining a Director’s Credential.
- Ability to pass a Level II background screening.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and assist children as needed.
Comfortable sitting on the floor with children and working at a computer.
Flexible availability within operating hours (Monday–Friday).
- Ability to participate in occasional events, trainings, or meetings outside of regular hours.
