Childcare Director

Job Description – CHAMP and Childcare Director PART TIME SCHOOL YEAR FULL TIME SUMMER

Reports to: Communications Director and Program Director

Purpose: The CHAMP and Childcare Director will work closely with the office staff to support the childcare functions of the organization including developing, supervising, and directing programs; supervision of childcare staff and volunteers; corresponding with parents/guardians; facilitating childcare information, and financial responsibility for collection of fees.

- Provide Administrative assistance to both the Operations Manager and the Recreation and Events Director to support the childcare functions of the organization.

- Lead the JM McDonald Summer Camp, CHAMP Afterschool Program, Schools Out Program and new programs as developed. Ensuring we have certification with appropriate regulatory agencies, training and supervision of camp counselors, coordinate registration, plan activities and meals, ensure the safety of the youth attending the camps, and strong communication from program to parents.

- Serve as lead teacher of childcare programs and direct support for counselors and leaders.

- Will maintain staff development and maintain schedule for childcare program within budget parameters.

- Should be able to organize daily flow of childcare programs.

- Identify the need for new childcare programs that can be established at JM McDonald Sports Complex to increase services to families who utilize our programs.

- Must abide by all NYS OCFS rules and regulations and keep up with any changes in policy.

- Lead and manage activities with NYS OCFS office, coordinate inspections, and fulfill all requests for information regarding our certification.

- Complete grant applications to fund and grow programs.

- Excellent computer skills are required including specific knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook. Candidate will use EZ-Facility Management Software and NYS OCFS system software.

- Should be able to work independently and within the parameters of a team.

- Must have the ability to handle a variety of administrative duties.

- I should maintain strict confidentiality related to business matters.

- Perform all duties as directed by the Communications Director and Program Director to support the mission, goals and objectives of the Sports Complex.

- Inventory of all equipment related to CHAMP.

- Create schedules for workers, fair and unbiased.

- Be able to solve any conflicts that arise with students, staff, or parents in timely and professional manner.

Time Requirements: Typical hours during the school year are 3pm-6pm Monday through Friday. However, hours will need to be adjusted to complete required in and out of classroom tasks. Summer Camp Program schedule runs 8:00am-5:00pm. Summer Camp work hours will be a part-time/full time basis Monday - Friday, times dependent on planned activities. Summer camp will provide 25-40 hours of work and After School program will require 10-15 hours per week (may be able to work more hours during school year if discussed in interview) As Director, additional hours may be needed to fulfill program requirements.

*NOTE THIS POSTION IS FLEXIBLE AND WILL BE COMPLETE TRAINING FROM THE CURRRENT CHILDCARE DIRECTOR BEFORE TAKING OVER JOB THIS SUMMER*

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in child development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field OR New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential OR School Age Child Care Credential. At least two years of working with children under the age of 13 years, including one or more years in a supervisory capacity. We should demonstrate an ability to interact effectively with the public.
