Children's Librarian

Overview
In line with attractive new decor in its recently enhanced Children’s area , the Richard A. Mola Public Library in Elmwood Park seeks an experienced and motivated professional to reinvigorate and expand its Children’s Services Department.

The ideal candidate must be friendly and outgoing, well-organized, a multi-tasker, able to manage a department, enjoy presenting programs, love working with children, and have strong time-management skills.

Duties

● Plan, schedule, promote and implement a wide calendar of programs and events for various age groups, from infant through teen.

● Conduct story time, crafts, creative play and educational sessions.

● Expand creative learning experiences with speakers, authors, and outside performers

● Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for all ages.

● Strengthen connections with local schools and provide class visits for schoolchildren.

● Contribute to the attractive appearance of the children’s area through displays.

● Prepare reading lists and relevant subject bibliographies for public distribution.

● Create and implement summer and other reading programs.

REQUIREMENTS

• Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
• New Jersey Public Librarian's Certificate, or ability to obtain
• Consideration will be given to certified, experienced educators and MLS students with youth literacy experience in another setting.
• Excellent communication skills with a focus on educating diverse audiences about youth services.
• Demonstrated customer service skills, fostering a welcoming environment for young patrons.
• Knowledge of social media platforms for effective engagement with the community.
• Proficiency in developing posters and flyers to advertise programs and attract involvement.
• Ability to select and maintain children's material.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $54,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
