Children's Ministry Director

POSITION SUMMARY

The Children’s Ministries Director is a part-time staff position accountable to the Elders of Grace on the Ashley. This person provides visionary and administrative leadership for a comprehensive children’s ministry program spanning birth through 5th grade. The primary aim of this role is to partner with parents in the biblical education and discipleship of their children, equipping families to raise the next generation in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:6–7).

DOCTRINAL & CHARACTER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Active member of Grace on the Ashley in good standing; staff member (and their family, if applicable) required to maintain active church membership
  • Affirm and abide by GotA’s Statement of Faith and Personnel Policy
  • Demonstrate a lifestyle of integrity, spiritual maturity, and servant leadership consistent with Scripture (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1)
  • Commitment to the local church and to the God-given responsibility of parents as the primary disciplers of their children

HOURS & COMPENSATION

  • Part-time position; specific hours to be determined in coordination with the Elders
  • Sunday presence required; additional weekly hours for planning, coordination, and communication
  • Compensation commensurate with experience and in accordance with the church’s personnel guidelines
  • This position is supervised by and reports directly to the Elders

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate a comprehensive children’s ministry consistent with GotA’s four core values
  • Assist the Elders in pastoral care and visitation of children and their families
  • Prepare and manage an annual children’s ministry budget within approved guidelines
  • Develop and maintain a Children’s Ministry Handbook (philosophy, policies, security procedures, etc.) with Elder input
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Elders

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative

  • Plan ministry programming with intentional alignment to GotA’s four core values
  • Supervise the Childcare Scheduler
  • Manage communication, implementation, and promotion of all children’s ministry events and programs (birth–5th grade)
  • Maintain a children’s ministry calendar and coordinate with the church’s master schedule
  • Research current, doctrinally sound curriculum and work with the Elders to select and order appropriate materials
  • Develop and maintain an organized Resource Room and classroom inventory

Child Protection

  • Coordinate background check applications through the Church Ministry Assistant
  • Plan and conduct regular childcare training for volunteers and staff
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with child protection and security policies for all staffing and childcare settings
  • Oversee and maintain the child check-in/check-out system

Teacher & Volunteer Support

  • Identify, enlist, encourage, and train children’s ministry volunteers in cooperation with the Elders
  • Plan and execute teacher appreciation events throughout the year
  • Maintain ongoing communication with teachers to ensure adequate supplies and resources

Family Support

  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with families in the congregation
  • Communicate with parents regularly in informative, encouraging, and biblically edifying ways
  • Develop a new family welcome packet for the children’s ministry
  • Collaborate with the Elders to offer biblically grounded parenting resources and classes

Community Outreach & Missions

  • Actively seek opportunities to reach children and families in the surrounding community with the gospel of Jesus Christ, recognizing that the Great Commission extends beyond the walls of the church (Matthew 28:19–20)
  • Plan and execute intentional outreach events and programs designed to connect unchurched children and families with the ministry of Grace on the Ashley
  • Build genuine, ongoing relationships with community families as a bridge for introducing them to Jesus Christ and to the life and fellowship of the local church
  • Mobilize and equip children’s ministry volunteers to participate in community outreach efforts, cultivating a culture of evangelism within the ministry
  • Coordinate outreach initiatives with the Elders and church staff to ensure alignment with the vision and values of Grace on the Ashley

COORDINATION & SUPERVISION

All duties and responsibilities shall be accomplished through timely coordination and cooperation with the Elders and the church office. This person will serve under the general supervision of the Elders.

Seeking a Children's Ministries Director with a passion for rooting children in the truth of God's Word and making that truth come alive in ways that are joyful, engaging, and age-appropriate.

Pay: $20,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
