Childwatch Attendant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Child Watch Attendant is responsible for providing a safe, caring, and engaging environment for children while under the supervision of the facility. This role ensures children are always monitored, guided through age-appropriate activities, and supported in developing social, emotional, and physical skills. The Child Care Attendant fosters positive relationships with children, parents, and staff, while following all facility policies and safety procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises and provides a safe nurturing environment for each child under their watch while following all facility policies, procedures, and emergency guidelines

  • Cultivates and encourages positive interactions, cooperation, and respectful behavior among and with children, parents, and staff

  • Engages children in developmentally appropriate games and learning activities

  • Provides for the physical needs of children including, but not limited to bottle feeding, distributing parent provided snacks/drinks, bathroom assistance, diaper changes, and first aid

  • Provides for the emotional needs of children including, but not limited to comforting distressed, sick, or hurt children, redirecting behavior that doesn’t align with the Ys core values, and giving positive feedback

  • Prepares, maintains, and closes the Child Watch areas\ by ensuring toys, supplies, play areas, storage areas, bathroom areas, and all furniture are safe, clean, sanitized, and organized

  • Attends or completes mandatory trainings and meetings

  • Uses scheduling application for work schedule request and payroll application for timecard punch in/out

  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Age 18 or older with a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Previous childcare experience

  • Ability to interact with children, parents, and coworkers in a patient, enthusiastic, and caring manner

  • Basic understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities

  • Basic understanding of computers and programs

  • Flexibility and willingness to work day, night, and weekend shifts

  • Ability to remain alert and proactive in a busy environment
