The role involves measuring, cutting, and fitting insulation materials to reduce heat gain, prevent condensation, and ensure energy efficiency. The candidate must be familiar with various insulation types and installation techniques commonly used in commercial and industrial settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install insulation materials (such as elastomeric rubber, fiberglass, phenolic foam, or polyurethane) on chilled water pipes.
- Measure and cut insulation to appropriate lengths using hand tools or power tools.
- Apply insulation around piping, fittings, flanges, valves, and other components as per project specifications.
- Use adhesives, fasteners, and sealing methods to ensure insulation is secure and moisture-tight.
- Apply vapor barriers, aluminum jacketing, or cladding as needed for external protection.
- Follow shop drawings, specifications, and insulation standards for correct application.
- Inspect and repair damaged or improperly installed insulation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and materials.
- Coordinate with other trades (e.g., pipefitters, duct workers) to avoid installation conflicts.
- Follow all site safety protocols, including use of PPE and hazard identification.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in insulation work, specifically on chilled water systems or HVAC piping.
- Knowledge of insulation materials, thicknesses, and installation methods based on pipe size and temperature.
- Ability to read and understand insulation layouts and basic mechanical drawings.
- Skilled in cutting, shaping, and sealing insulation materials for different surfaces and conditions.
- Basic understanding of thermal conductivity, condensation prevention, and fire safety related to insulation.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting and working at heights or in tight spaces.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
Preferred:
- Experience on large commercial, hospital, or industrial HVAC projects.
- Familiarity with international insulation standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO).
