This role involves hands-on technical work, monitoring system performance, ensuring energy efficiency, and adhering to safety regulations. The technician/operator will be involved in both operational tasks (monitoring, adjustments) and maintenance/repair duties (installation, troubleshooting).
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. System Operation and Monitoring:
- Operate and monitor chiller systems, cooling towers, air handling units (AHUs), and associated HVAC systems to ensure smooth functioning.
- Continuously track temperature, pressure, and performance data to ensure systems are running optimally.
- Adjust operational parameters as necessary to maintain cooling efficiency and performance standards.
- Implement energy-saving strategies and ensure efficient system performance, especially during peak loads in hot weather conditions.
2. Installation and Commissioning:
- Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new chiller units, cooling towers, and associated HVAC equipment.
- Ensure that all systems are installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications and local regulations.
3. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance:
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on chillers and HVAC equipment, including checking refrigerant levels, cleaning filters, inspecting compressors, and lubricating moving parts.
- Address system breakdowns and perform corrective maintenance (CM) to resolve operational issues such as faulty compressors, refrigerant leaks, or electrical malfunctions.
- Replace and repair components such as compressors, valves, filters, and pumps as needed.
4. Troubleshooting and Fault Diagnosis:
- Diagnose faults in chiller and HVAC systems, including mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues.
- Utilize diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, pressure gauges, sensors) to identify issues and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Respond promptly to system alarms and breakdowns to minimize downtime and ensure systems continue operating efficiently.
5. System Optimization and Performance Checks:
- Conduct routine performance checks on chiller systems to identify any inefficiencies or potential problems.
- Ensure that all system components are operating within the required specifications, adjusting settings to optimize cooling performance.
- Provide recommendations for system upgrades or energy-saving measures based on performance data.
6. Safety Compliance and Regulations:
- Follow UAE’s safety and environmental regulations regarding refrigerant handling, disposal, and chemical safety.
- Adhere to safety protocols and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent accidents and injuries while handling chiller equipment.
- Ensure that all systems are compliant with local health and safety standards and that emergency shutdown systems are functional.
7. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed and accurate logs of daily operations, including system conditions, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Provide clear and timely reports to supervisors regarding system performance, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.
- Keep records of spare parts inventory, tools, and equipment used during maintenance tasks.
8. Coordination and Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineering teams, senior technicians, and building management to address operational concerns and optimize system performance.
- Coordinate with contractors and suppliers for parts replacement or specialized services when required.
- Ensure smooth communication with the management team regarding ongoing tasks and any issues that need attention.
Requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma with vocational training in HVAC, refrigeration, or a related technical field.
- Additional certifications, such as City & Guilds, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technician License, or other international HVAC qualifications are preferred.
Experience:
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in chiller systems operation and maintenance, ideally in the UAE or a similar hot climate environment.
- Experience with both air-cooled and water-cooled chillers is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Solid understanding of chiller systems (mechanical and electrical components), cooling towers, and HVAC system operations.
- Proficiency in diagnosing issues related to refrigeration cycles, compressors, cooling systems, and HVAC equipment.
- Experience with system monitoring tools, diagnostic instruments, and HVAC management software.
Soft Skills:
