Job Overview
We are seeking a Church Controller to provide oversight and stewardship for the church’s financial operations. This role is ideal for a spiritually mature leader who senses a calling to steward God’s resources with integrity, transparency, and excellence in support of ministry across multiple campuses.
The Church Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial health and accounting operations of the church and church ministries. This role goes beyond bookkeeping and requires strategic thinking, strong internal controls, and collaborative leadership with pastors, staff, and board. A vibrant Christian faith is essential, with biblical stewardship shaping both decision-making and daily work.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full spectrum of accounting functions including general ledger accounting, transaction coding, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and account analysis.
- Provide timely month-end and year-end closing documents for leadership review.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Coordinate payroll processes and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and financial best practices
- Work closely with pastoral leadership, Finance Department, and external vendors
- Ensure accurate financial records and support audits or financial reviews as needed
- Oversee cash management activities, including forecasting, cash flow analysis, and ensuring adequate liquidity for operational needs.
- Utilize financial software to streamline accounting processes and enhance reporting capabilities.
Qualifications
- A strong, active Christian faith that influences all areas of life, including financial stewardship
- Demonstrated understanding of church or nonprofit accounting
- Experience in accounting or financial leadership roles (controller-level experience preferred)
- Familiarity with accounting systems (Aplos experience preferred; training available)
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with pastors, staff, and volunteers
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Excellent written communication skills for preparing comprehensive financial reports and documentation.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
