Location

Our campus is located at 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118.

Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses.

Job Summary

The University Police Criminal Investigations Division (CID) Investigator is responsible for ensuring proper investigative practices are used in the investigation of crimes reported to the University Police Department, in full compliance with all applicable state and federal standards.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the CID commander, the University Police Investigator is responsible for following leads, meeting with witnesses and victims, interviewing suspects, conducting Voice Stress Analysis, managing caseloads, writing case files, issuing subpoenas and warrants, analyzing data, meeting with judges and prosecutors, conducting court and crime scene investigations, and collecting and processing evidence. The Investigator will work an on-call rotation as directed by the CID Commander. The Investigator will also attend training on various topics, both on- and off-campus, and assist the patrol division as needed.

Maintain all evidence and property brought in and collected by the department. Data entry and managing items in the evidence and property room, including the public drug deposit receptacle. Research case dispositions, prepare court orders for property disposal, and train personnel on handling, packaging, & presentation. Transport evidence to and from labs. Complete audits and inventories.

Respond to open record requests, expungement requests, and serve subpoenas. Assist with internal and background investigations and conduct voice stress analysis.

Assist with Crime Prevention efforts as needed. Teach UWG Staff and officers on various topics. Attend meetings. Provide security for employee terminations upon request. Create safety plans and conduct safety assessments. Conduct plain clothes details.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or GED.


Required Experience

U.S. Citizen, age 21 or older, with no felony or non-motor vehicle misdemeanor convictions. Must be able to speak and write English effectively. Must be in good physical health, with 20/20 vision or correctable to 20/20, and the ability to hear and speak clearly. Must be able to walk, run, jump, and lift. The ability to carry and use a firearm safely and accurately is required by the Ga POST standards. Must possess Georgia POST Peace Officer certification in good standing. Position requires possession of a valid Georgia Driver¿s License in good standing. Ability to work overtime is required, along with reliable transportation and a phone. You must have basic computer skills or be able to learn the department's computer programs. Must pass a drug screening and background check.


Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Progress towards or completion of the GA POST supervisory certificate. Progress towards or completion of the GA POST intermediate certificate.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's degree

Preferred Experience
Bachelor's degree in criminology, criminal justice, business counseling, or a related field with 4 years of law enforcement experience as a POST Certified Peace Officer with experience in criminal investigations and Title IX Procedures.

Proposed Salary

$21.66 - $26.17 hourly. Paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Applicant must be in good physical health, possess 20/20 vision or vision correctable to 20/20, ability to hear and speak clearly, walk, run, jump and lift 40 pounds. Ability to use a firearm safely and accurately is crucial.

KNOWLEDGE
This is a certified police position which requires the officer to carry a firearm, make arrests and operate a patrol car. Failure to properly carry out the assigned duties in a safe and justifiable manner can result in injury to innocent people as well as financial and reputational consequences for the University.
