Cirrus Flight Instructor

Part-Time Independent Flight Instructor – Cirrus Aircraft
Location: Western North Carolina, Blue Ridge Mountains

NC Mountain Aero is seeking a highly skilled, student-focused Flight Instructor to provide industry-leading Cirrus flight training throughout the scenic Western North Carolina mountains. This role offers the opportunity to work with Cirrus SR series aircraft and deliver structured, high-quality instruction tailored to meet the expectations of discerning clients seeking exceptional training experiences. Instruction follows a proprietary syllabus designed to optimize learning efficiency and mastery.

Position Overview

The Flight Instructor serves as pilot in command while conducting 14 CFR Part 61 flight training, including flight reviews, proficiency checks, and other instructional activities. Reporting directly to the Chief Flight Instructor, this role is responsible for guiding student progress, maintaining accurate records, ensuring safety compliance, preparing lessons and flight plans, and contributing to the continuous improvement of training processes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, professional, and high-quality flight and ground instruction in accordance with Cirrus policies and industry best practices
  • Make timely and accurate decisions to ensure flight safety at all times
  • Evaluate student performance across psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains, and adapt instruction to individual learning needs
  • Maintain detailed training records and recommend students for FAA knowledge and practical examinations
  • Serve as pilot in command during corporate missions, ferry flights, internal training flights, and demonstration flights
  • Conduct pre- and post-flight inspections, aircraft cleaning, fueling, oil servicing, de-icing, and chart updates
  • Stay current with Cirrus aircraft systems, product developments, and best practices in aviation instruction
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with students before, during, and after training events
  • Support safety management initiatives and promote a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to meet operational and training objectives

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of piloting experience
  • At least 200 hours of dual instruction given
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor (Single Engine & Instrument)
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, Airplane Single-Engine Land, with Instrument Rating
  • Current Second-Class Airman Medical Certificate or higher
  • Completion of Cirrus SR Series Transition Course preferred; prior Cirrus experience strongly preferred
  • Preferred experience in IFR operations in congested airspace, mountain flying, extensive IMC exposure, and night flying
