Citation CJ3 First Officer - (Part Time / Ad Hoc, Van Nuys, CA)

Description

Silver Air is building an on-demand pipeline of qualified Second-in-Command pilots to support our Citation CJ fleet across Part 135 charter and Part 91 operations. This is a precision role for a self-directed professional — not a mentorship opportunity, not a casual observer position.
When a trip requires a second pilot, you are the standard. Under Part 135, this function is a fully compliant SIC role requiring program enrollment, a 293 check, and all applicable training before you operate a single charter leg. Part 91 support flights are available immediately upon hire for pilots who hold the type rating but have not yet completed 135 enrollment.
This role is ad hoc and on-call. There are no guaranteed hours. Pilots who demonstrate Silver Air–level professionalism, documentation discipline, and responsiveness will be first considered as permanent openings arise.

Type Rating Requirement: Candidates must hold a current Citation CJ3 (CE-525S) type rating prior to flying under Part 135. Applicants who do not currently hold the required type rating are welcome to apply; however, they are responsible for obtaining and financing their own type rating before operating charter flights. Silver Air may offer conditional, performance-based partial reimbursement of training costs — terms are discussed individually at the offer stage.

What you'll be doing:

  • Serving as a fully qualified SIC on Part 135 charter flights once 135 training and enrollment are complete
  • Supporting Part 91 operations including crew relief, repositioning, ferry flights, and owner flights
  • Reviewing the maintenance status of the aircraft to confirm airworthiness prior to each flight
  • Conducting pre-flight inspections in accordance with the approved Aircraft Flight Manual
  • Completing weather, route, and alternate airport analysis before departure
  • Ensuring all flights are conducted in compliance with Silver Air procedures and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Accurately completing all trip paperwork per Silver Air standards — complete and correct the first time
  • Maintaining currency, First Class Medical, and all recurrent training requirements independently

To do well in this role, you'll need:

  • CE-525S (CJ3) type rating — required before Part 135 charter operations
  • Total time in all aircraft = 1,000 hours minimum
  • Multi-engine time = 1,000 hours minimum
  • Total turbine time = 500 hours preferred
  • Valid First Class Medical Certificate — required; must be maintained independently
  • Previous Part 135 SIC experience — preferred, not required
  • CANPASS authorization — ability to obtain and maintain for unrestricted Canada operations
  • Responsiveness and communication discipline — Silver Air expects replies within the hour; all written communication must reflect the premium nature of our operation
  • Documentation precision — trip paperwork, compliance records, and correspondence must be accurate and complete without follow-up
  • Schedule flexibility — this is a 24/7 on-call role; nights, weekends, and holidays are expected
