The City of Reed City, (population 2490) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of City Clerk. This position serves under the supervision of the City Manager, serves as secretary to the City Council, oversees voter registration and all elections and is responsible for the maintenance of all official City records, documents and ordinances.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serves as official proceeding recorder for the City Council and other boards.
  • Serves as the official custodian for the safekeeping and management of all City records.
  • Oversees the administration of all elections held in the City
  • Prepares and presents annual budget requests and administers departmental budget.
  • Serves as Accounts Payable clerk for payment of all invoices.
  • Manages cemetery sales and related records.
  • Maintains personnel files for past and current City employees.
  • Manages worker’s compensation coverage for City Employees.
  • Provides administrative and special project support to the City Manager and City Council.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree, in business or public administration or related field.

OR

  • Five years experience in public administration, finance, or a business office, or related setting, including some supervisory experience.
  • Certification as a Municipal Clerk is highly desirable.
  • Certification as an Elections Inspector (must attain within 1 year).
  • Certification as a Notary Public (must attain within 60 days)
  • Knowledge of the City Charter and official City policies.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment and machines.
  • Communicate well with citizens, elected officials, employees and department heads.
  • Ability to attend meetings outside of normal business hours.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

An employee in this position spends the majority of their time in an office setting, sitting and extensive use of a computer. Communicate by telephone, email or in person, and move around the office or travel to other locations. Some light lifting required.

Wage and benefit package is commensurate with experience and qualifications, including employer funded MERS DB Plan. Starting salary determined by experience ranging from $50,715- $69,407.
