REPORTS TO: Director of Public Works Director and Assistant Director of Public Works
The City of Creve Coeur is seeking a motivated and skilled Civil Engineer (Grade 13) to join its Public Works Department. This position plays a key role in delivering the City’s capital improvement program, including roadway, sidewalk, stormwater, parks, and other infrastructure projects, as well as grant-funded initiatives from local and federal sources. A background in stormwater and/or construction management is desirable. This position also supports the review of site improvement plans and right-of-way permits and may participate in evening committee and City Council meetings.
The City of Creve Coeur encompasses 10.25 square miles and is primarily residential, complemented by a vibrant business district along Olive Boulevard. The City serves approximately 18,725 residents, with a daytime population reaching up to 50,000 due to office and retail activity. The City maintains a roadway network of 162 lane miles supported by an annual Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget of $2–$3 million, depending on grant funding. Park and stormwater improvements are supported by a dedicated Parks/Stormwater tax generating approximately $2 million annually.
DESCRIPTION:
Assists the Director of Public Works and the Assistant Public Works Director in overseeing construction activity, preparing contract documents, developing solutions to infrastructure challenges, reviewing permits, enforcing City codes, and improving internal review processes to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with City standards. Responds to resident inquiries and conducts site visits to investigate and resolve reported concerns.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT REQUIREMENTS:
Physical: Must be able to walk and carry survey and testing equipment for long distances and over poor terrain, lift fifty (50) pounds, and drive to and from construction sites. Must have the strength and dexterity to work in various environments for long duration, including outside in differing weather conditions, indoors at a desk, and in a vehicle. Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, crawl, pull and/or push, grasp, reach and climb, as needed.
Mental: Must be able to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with others. Must be a self-starter who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team and who can find and use information to solve problems and make appropriate decisions. Must be able to effectively organize and prioritize work, give and follow both written and oral instructions, concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously, and to make accurate decisions under pressure.
