Core responsibilities
- Cost analysis and estimation: Review architectural drawings, specifications, and proposals to accurately determine the time, labor, material, and equipment costs for a project.
- Proposal development: Prepare and present comprehensive cost estimates, bids, and budgets to management and clients.
- Vendor and subcontractor management: Research and obtain bids from subcontractors and vendors, analyze quotations, and negotiate terms.
- Data and database management: Maintain and update the company's estimating database with current pricing data.
- Project tracking: Monitor and track project costs throughout the project lifecycle, identifying cost savings opportunities and adjusting estimates as needed.
- Collaboration and communication: Work closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and resolve issues.
- Research and development: Stay up-to-date on new materials, methods, and industry trends to improve the estimating process.
Required skills and qualifications
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficiency in software like Microsoft Excel and specialized estimating software (e.g., AGTEK, Procontractor) is often required.
- Knowledge of CAD software and utility systems is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong time management skills.
- A degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is typically required.
- Prior experience in construction estimation or a related field is often beneficial.
