Civil Inspector

Job Overview

A Civil Inspector is responsible for overseeing the quality of construction work related to civil engineering and infrastructure. The role involves inspecting materials, workmanship, and ensuring compliance with design plans, safety regulations, and building codes. The Civil Inspector works closely with contractors, engineers, and project managers to ensure that construction projects meet required standards and specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Site Inspections:

· Perform daily inspections of construction activities to ensure compliance with the approved design, specifications, and quality standards.

· Inspect construction work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with construction drawings, plans, and safety codes.

· Verify that the materials used in the construction meet the quality standards and are suitable for the project.

Quality Control:

· Monitor and assess the quality of construction materials, workmanship, and installations, ensuring they meet the required specifications.

· Identify any defects or non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions to contractors and project managers.

· Conduct testing and sampling of materials and products (e.g., concrete, soil, steel, asphalt) to ensure they meet industry standards.

Safety Compliance:

· Ensure that safety protocols and regulations are followed during construction, including proper use of equipment and protective measures.

· Conduct safety inspections to verify that safety measures (e.g., scaffolding, barricades, safety signs) are in place and being adhered to.

· Report any unsafe practices or conditions on the construction site to the project manager.

Documentation and Reporting:

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date inspection records, logs, and reports for all inspections conducted.

· Prepare regular progress reports detailing the status of inspections, materials used, compliance with design plans, and any identified issues.

· Submit inspection reports to the project manager, highlighting any discrepancies, potential risks, or delays.

Coordination with Stakeholders:

· Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and contractors to resolve any issues found during inspections.

· Coordinate with the design team to ensure that any changes to construction plans are communicated and properly executed on-site.

· Attend project meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and inspections findings.

Site Measurements and Testing:

· Conduct measurements and tests on-site to ensure the correct dimensions, quality, and performance of materials and structures.

· Perform soil compaction tests, concrete strength tests, and other relevant assessments based on the specific requirements of the project.

Issue Identification and Rectification:

· Identify deviations from project plans and specifications and ensure that corrective actions are taken to address non-compliance.

· Work with contractors and subcontractors to resolve any construction defects or issues that arise during the inspection process.

Accountabilities:

· Ensure that all construction work and materials comply with the project specifications, legal regulations, and industry standards.

· Ensure that any non-conformance issues are addressed promptly and do not affect the overall progress of the project.

· Accountable for maintaining the quality of construction work, ensuring that it meets the required standards, and that corrective actions are implemented when necessary.

· Ensure that the construction site operates in compliance with safety regulations and that any safety violations are reported and rectified immediately.

· Accountable for providing timely and accurate inspection reports and updates to the project manager and other relevant stakeholders.

· Ensure that inspection records are complete, clear, and accessible for future reference.

Key Performance Indicators

· Percentage of inspections completed without identifying non-compliance or issues (indicating high standards of construction).

· Number of non-compliance incidents identified during inspections that are corrected within a defined time frame.

· Number of safety violations reported and rectified promptly.

· Number of safety incidents or accidents on-site, with a goal to minimize such occurrences.

· Percentage of construction work passing initial inspection versus requiring rework or corrections.

· Number of quality issues or defects identified during the construction phase, tracked against project milestones.

· Adherence to deadlines for submitting inspection reports and documentation.

· Time taken to resolve issues identified during inspections, with an emphasis on minimizing project delays.

· Percentage of issues identified during inspections that are successfully rectified without delays.

Minimum Competencies & Skills Required:

· Strong understanding of local and international building codes, regulations, and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ASTM, ISO).

· Familiarity with civil engineering principles and construction materials, methods, and techniques.

· Excellent attention to detail when inspecting materials, workmanship, and construction processes to identify issues and ensure compliance.

· Ability to identify issues and propose effective solutions to rectify problems quickly and efficiently.

· Deep knowledge of construction site safety protocols and the ability to enforce safety standards effectively.

· Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.

  • Familiarity with industry-specific software for reporting and documentation (e.g., Onsite, Aconnex, Procore, Buildertrend, or similar platforms).
  • Competence in measuring instruments, testing equipment, and tools used for site inspections (e.g., laser measures, concrete testing kits).

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is typically preferred.
  • A Diploma in civil engineering or construction-related disciplines may also be acceptable, particularly for those with extensive practical experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in civil inspection, construction quality control, or a related role in the real estate development or construction industry.
  • Prior experience working on large-scale projects, including residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments, is beneficial.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: AED9,000.00 - AED12,000.00 per month
