The Civil Piping Designer will be responsible for developing detailed designs and drawings for civil, site, and piping systems supporting a metal recycling facility. This position plays a key role in translating engineering concepts into accurate, constructible designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design tools. The ideal candidate will have experience working in heavy industrial or manufacturing environments, with a strong understanding of site grading, utilities, and process piping layouts.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed civil and piping design drawings, including site layouts, grading plans, utility routing, and process piping systems.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to model terrain, piping networks, and infrastructure elements with precision.
- Develop 3D piping layouts, plans, sections, and isometrics for process, water, and storm systems.
- Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to ensure design compatibility and constructability.
- Support the development of construction drawing packages, material take-offs, and design documentation.
- Review vendor drawings and equipment layouts to integrate into facility designs.
- Assist engineers with design revisions, as-built updates, and field markups.
- Participate in design review meetings and collaborate with construction and operations teams to address field conditions.
- Ensure all designs comply with company standards, local codes, and safety/environmental regulations.
- Maintain organized drawing files and support document control requirements.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Civil Design, Drafting, or Engineering Technology (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 5+ years of design experience in an industrial, heavy civil, or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for grading, utilities, and piping layout.
- Experience with process or utility piping design, including underground and above-ground systems.
- Working knowledge of steel, concrete, and site development drawings.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
- Strong understanding of drainage, foundations, and site infrastructure design.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in metal recycling, steel mill, refinery, or other heavy industrial projects.
- Familiarity with Navisworks, Plant 3D, or other 3D coordination tools.
- Knowledge of stormwater management, utility design, and grading optimization.
- Field experience supporting construction or design validation.
