Civil Project Engineer ll

POSITION GOAL:

The Civil Project Engineer II will perform advanced level engineering duties associated with the design of civil engineering projects in the Cedarburg, WI office. They will also perform moderate level project management functions. This position supports all aspects of design projects for roadways, utilities, transit, etc.; prepares schematics & models; performs analysis & engineering calculations; develops plans, specifications & estimates; prepares technical engineering reports; leads development of scope and fee proposals for basic to moderate complexity projects; leads monitoring of project budget and staff assignments; leads QAQC of project deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - GENERAL

  • Evaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
  • Performs work assignments of advanced complexity. Contributes to specific objectives and outcomes.
  • Provides instruction on specific objectives and direction on possible solutions to unconventional or complex problems.
  • Works as part of a team and coordinates work with others.
  • Establishes project work priorities and plans work appropriately.
  • Typically receives minimal supervision and is expected to work independently.

  • Interacts with both internal project team members as well as direct communication with clients or other stakeholders.
  • Adheres to project deadlines and keeps the task manager or client informed of any issues impacting scheduled deadlines.
  • Has the primary responsibility for review of project work by other staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES – SPECIFIC

  • Oversees development of detailed construction plans for roadway, utility, electrical, and transportation projects
  • Coordinates design changes and revisions based on internal and external feedback.
  • Communicates regularly with internal design staff and project lead to coordinate the progress of various assignments and adhere to project deadlines. Acts as discipline or project lead. May communicate progress to client.
  • Independently manages time and schedule to achieve multiple project milestones.
  • Organizes and maintains project files. Leads documentation of correspondence and meeting minutes.
  • Evaluates and applies applicable current engineering standards, and federal and/or local requirements to assigned projects.
  • Leads the coordination and documentation of quality control reviews throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • Manages tasks and/or projects of moderate to advanced complexity.
  • Acts as main point of contact with client or with project lead (on projects led by other disciplines).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Job Classification: Exempt (Salaried)

Report to: Project Engineer – Team Lead and/or Senior Engineer

Experience: Typically 12+ years required.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Technical Skills: Spatial and design skills to visualize projects in 2D and 3D. Advanced engineering skills to compliment position goal. Advanced experience with WisDOT projects and/or projects for Wisconsin Municipalities. Experience with Civil 3D/AutoCAD. Experience in preparing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the work of less experienced staff; leads tasks and/or projects of moderate to advanced complexity.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk, or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.

Working Environment: This job may require long periods of standing or walking in the field and include exposure to all types of outside weather conditions, varying noise levels, and hazards associated with construction. Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field. The employee may also be exposed to a general office environment, requiring long periods of sitting at a computer in ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise level. Due to the collaborative nature of this position, the work will need to be performed in the field or office, typically during normal business hours. Travel is required; must possess a valid license.

Continuing Education: Complete state-required competency. Attend job-related seminars and workshops.

Salary Range: $101,274 - $125,753

Pay: $115,400.00 - $135,684.00 per year
