Primary Purpose
Under general supervision, Civil Site Development Engineer performs engineering functions requiring knowledge and limited experience in engineering principles. This role is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field and continues to develop technical expertise through applied practice. This role also has entry-level involvement in change management / improvement initiatives, task management and client-facing interactions.
Job Responsibilities
- Continues to learn and develop knowledge and skills in departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and Commonwealth Associates policies and procedures. Applies this knowledge to assigned tasks.
- Demonstrates a progressive understanding of industry knowledge and remains current with changes.
- Interprets the standards for uncommon activities or situations and seeks guidance where clarification is required.
- Applies developed understanding of and compliance with Commonwealth Associates quality program to associated tasks under minimal supervision.
- Develops an understanding of how systematizing development of deliverables is applicable to quality efforts.
- Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts by proactively presenting leadership with new suggestions around process and practices innovation.
- Assists in identifying and communicating client interests and drivers to project team and develops approaches to meet these interests and drivers throughout the work on moderately complex projects.
- In collaboration with the Business Development department, represents the company’s emerging professional engineers at career fairs as needed.
- Independently attends internal and external client meetings, conference calls and client site visits working with technical counterpart from client organization.
- Supports internal project teams, occasionally interacts with client's technical lead for data requests, site visits, clarification of project execution and review of comments.
- Communicates directly with other disciplines to identify and coordinate details of work for assigned tasks.
- Coordinate with administrative support staff in the development of project deliverables.
- Coordinates tasks and proper sequencing of tasks with internal staff, project managers and clients.
- Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
- Performs routine research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
- Prepares a variety of moderately complex engineering and deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications and studies with limited supervision.
- Prepares and verifies engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications and studies of limited scope and with supervision and interaction with higher-level engineers.
- Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis.
- Reports to supervisor when planned hours do not provide full work week.
- Completes expense reports and timesheets in a timely and accurate manner and seeks direction from supervisor when conflicts arise.
- Remains aware and demonstrates understanding of project scope management.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year basic engineering duties as entry level engineer or Master's degree.
- Background in civil land development within commercial, industrial, governmental, or aviation sectors.
- Construction experience preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skilled in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Expertise in Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads.
